Horror Film Lovers!
I’ve been working on this in the background for more than a year now but I’ve now achieved one of my career goals to establish a horror film festival for Canberra, Australia!
Yeh! Nah! Horror Film Festival - 25-31 October.

April Hélène-Horton, aka 'The Bodzilla,' is here to shake things up. Meet one half of our dynamic MC’s for Driving Change - Disability Employment Summit.
A passionate advocate for body acceptance, fat positivity and is the epitome of unapologetic authenticity.
A key here is the word SUCCESSFULLY. Has the producer had another feature end up where you’re hoping YOU’RE movie will be? Find someone who can say “I can’t promise anything, but this is how we got famous people and got into this festival and ended up releasing this way”.
Unsolicited advice for first time feature filmmakers. Find at least one producer who has successfully produced and released other features to be on your team, even as an EP/consultant. The amount of features I’ve seen (or been in) where the team knew how to MAKE the film but had no experience or contacts when it came to navigating casting, festivals, sales, distribution, etc. That’s like half of it. Literally.
How I’ve always felt Canberra Liberals view most Canberrans - despite at times presenting sometimes kinda viable alternative government. No idea what to expect from this weekend’s election. But I read Arts policy for next term, and only ACT Labor mentioned Screen industry. ✅
I love the train trip between Canberra and Sydney. I’m not a fan of the 3hr bus journey. I’d drive before taking the bus. But I really enjoy the 4 hours the train takes but would 100% enjoy it more if it took a little quicker - perhaps if it matched the drive/bus travel time?
If you need to build confidence as a filmmaker, look inward.
It's not going to come from a festival acceptance or a distribution deal or any other gatekeeper.
It will come from making films over and over again until you can no longer doubt your own abilities.
So I’m doing this festival my own way - even if someone suggests it’s the wrong way - I doing what I can to support the HELL out of all 36 films we selected. If anyone wants to hear the full story and write something, my DMs are open!

Speed Racer and The Matrix Sequels drove my film culture forward. I aspire now as a filmmaker to make films that recreate how those films made me feel.
Megalopolis made me romantic and nostalgic for a period of film that never came. A world where Speed Racer and the Matrix sequels were what drove our culture forward. Painfully sincere dreaming of the a civilization that could’ve had it all. I fucking loved it.
‘DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE’ has surpassed ‘THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST’ to become the highest grossing R-rated film at the domestic box office.
‘THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST’ held the record for 20 years.
Pitch Meeting:
So it’s Guardians of the Galaxy crossed with Suicide Squad but not a James Gunn film but instead directed by Tarantino’s protege?
Well maybe we should just marketing it like that.
What stands out most here is that Avatar has just 2 films in its ‘franchise’ and is one movie away from being in the Top 8 and has made more than all the Pirates of the Caribbean films combined.
