“Participated” in convocation @WesternU today to receive my doctorate. One of the most dishearteningly inaccessible experiences I’ve had in a long time. (The broken elevator wasn’t even the worst of it.)
If @WesternU is really committed to barrier free access, how is that a graduating PhD shows up for convocation to find elevators not working, closed doors and a stage not set up for equal access?? Not being part of procession and not connecting with peers is equal access?

This is why we need to do a better job educating volunteer coaches, typically well meaning Moms and Dads, whose hearts are in the right place but they have no true idea what they are getting themselves into.
Coaching beginners requires as much specialist expertise as coaching elite athletes. The coach is preparing them either to pursue future high performance or to live an active healthful life. That’s a big responsibility and not one for beginner coaches
@mouseinhouse05 If not, I’d take a parent over someone with no personal connection to the impairment.
We need to do a better job of empowering individuals with impairment to take on leadership roles.
@mouseinhouse05 I agree that having individuals with the impairment in positions of influence on a board would be ideal, as long as there are individuals with the impairment willing to take on those roles.

Almost home from an amazing 10 day trip to Spain with the 2019 Para Pan Am Games swim team. It was a very successful training camp for the swimmers and I had a great experience in the role of Assistant Team Manager! Thank you to @SwimmingCanada for the opportunity!
