@KellyOwens9997 @d_feldman My class is all about the students' ability to express their analysis in writing. LLMs are a shortcut that circumvents them doing the work of the class. Without the work of the class, they don't build the real life skills and context to assess LLM results (yet).
@susangbarber Between the kids desperate for concordant scores and the kids whose brains are focused on prom (this weekend) or college (not for months, guys...), I am le tired.
@susangbarber@debkoza Ugh. I spent my first few years basically not sleeping for a week or two at the end of each quarter to process all the last-minute work. I couldn't do it any more -- to myself or my family -- so I restructured the whole class. Perfect? No, but it's working much better.
@susangbarber Also, weekly activities that put them in groups to do something hands-on. Sometimes this is fun (snail poetry!) sometimes it's thinky (peer review), but they need that practice with work that has a social aspect.
@susangbarber My classes are flexibly paced, so my approaches are different, but the top thing that has worked to recapture focus has been mandatory 20m quiet focus time at start of class. I enforce by quietly checking in w/each kid around the room. This + promise of collab time really works.
@ungreg@susangbarber I feel like I need to shift to the 3-day project, because any longer-term project that runs concurrently -- no matter how scaffolded or self-directed -- becomes "too hard" to fit in with the ongoing work (or socializing...).
@JennyENicholson Last time I was at Dis was with a field trip (tix ordered in a block). The app (which I downloaded in desperation) told me I could not reserve a ride because I was not in the park. (It did let me order a meal though?) No rhyme or reason. Hate it. HATE it.
@Nash076 Small addition: review the foods in your freezer/refrigerator. Eat the microwave ones now while you have power; cook but don't eat the things like ground beef or chicken that are easy to reheat. Those things will keep better once cooked & can be eaten cold too.
@heymrsbond From Eavan Boland's magnificent "Quarantine":
In the morning they were both found dead.
Of cold. Of hunger. Of the toxins of a whole history.
But her feet were held against his breastbone.
The last heat of his flesh was his last gift to her.
