Con reportes de que Maduro/Flores han perdido peso en prisión de EE.UU., he visto algunas cuentas de X referirse a la “dieta Maduro”.

Recomiendo no hacerlo. Baratea un término que se refiere propiamente al uso deliberado del hambre como herramienta de control social por parte del régimen.

En los últimos años, 1/3 de los venezolanos han luchado por conseguir incluso 2100 kilocalorías al día, debido a que el Cartel destrozó la economía.

En comparación, en prisión, Maduro/Flores están recibiendo la cantidad adecuada de nutrición — ~2600-2800 kilocalorías al día — con comidas saludables que no se parecen en nada a la basura que Alex Saab metía en las cajas CLAP.

Si se ven más delgados, es porque los tiranos bailarines de salsa necesitaban perder peso.

Venezuela just hired Hogan Lovells to handle its sovereign debt restructuring.

The firm wasn’t brought in just for the debt work. They were also hired for US government relations, and that dual mandate is really the tell here. This isn’t some boring technical legal process but a political operation dressed up in financial language, and the speed at which it’s moving is the biggest red flag of all.

When you hire a Washington-connected firm with this kind of mandate, you’re not carefully building a restructuring designed to protect the country’s long-term fiscal space. You’re trying to close something fast before the political window shuts. And fast restructurings almost always favor creditors, because Venezuela’s negotiators are working against a clock while the other side has been preparing for this moment for years.

A significant chunk of those creditors are American, which means the same government that designed the Three Phase framework and controls the sanctions relief timeline has a very direct institutional interest in seeing those creditors made whole. That’s not a conspiracy theory. It’s just incentives doing exactly what incentives do.

Now, the ugly thing is what experts are already signaling: If I were what’s left of chavismo and I was already thinking about a political comeback down the road, one of the smartest moves I could make on my way out is locking in a debt deal with genuinely awful long-term conditions for Venezuela, not obviously awful, but technically defensible awful. Because when the next government struggles to meet those obligations and ordinary Venezuelans aren’t seeing the recovery they were promised, the narrative writes itself: “They handed the country to Wall Street and Washington. We told you so.”

The debt bomb is actually more elegant than sabotaging oil infrastructure, because it’s invisible, completely legal, and takes years to detonate. By the time it goes off, everyone who signed it has moved on and has a very clean story ready.

I’ve been saying for weeks that the pace of this transition was being shaped by interests that have very little to do with Venezuela’s long-term sovereignty. It’s the price Venezuelans have to pay for their irresponsible behavior in the 1998 elections.
