Administration’s refusal to accept UMFA’s reasonable proposals is making a bad situation even worse, as faculty recruitment and retention problems deepen. #umfa2021#umfaSTRONG#umfastrike
If we had settled in 2016 (b4 the strike & therefore b4 the provincial government's negotiation mandate), the University would already be paying more than we are asking for now. The university clearly has the money in the bank given that it posts a yearly surplus. #umfa2021
@UMFA_FAUM Unlike other industries, faculty strikes do not cost anything to the university. In fact, they gain from the strike because they don't pay salary. It's only the faculty and students suffer. If @umanitoba admin actually cared about students, we wouldn't be in this position now.
THIS is what makes me proud to work at the U of M - our students. Courageous and loyal… wish I could say the same about our employers 😒 @supportingumfa @UMFA_FAUM
The UM admin claims that it has the best interests of students at heart. But days are passing, and it refuses to make concessions to reach a fair deal with UMFA that would see students and faculty back in the classroom. #umfa2021#umfaSTRONG
Strike day 28: as @UMFA_FAUM continues to negotiate and modify their proposals, @umanitoba continues to refuse to budge. Meanwhile the students are fed only one side of story. Here’s the other side @supportingumfa
“It is exactly this frustration, this feeling of helpless impotence, that should push every single student at the university to support UMFA and the strike.” https://t.co/L9isbdhIfi
Best wishes @UMFAPres Orvie & team as you continue bargaining with @umanitoba president this wk-end. hope: good faith & respect from both sides. It’s time for admin to extend an olive branch and actually #negotiate—for the sake of our current & future uni. #umfa2021@UMFA_FAUM
There is a lot of noise out there late today, but Umfa President @odingwall and President Bennaroch met today and agreed that direct bargaining will continue over this weekend.
This is the take away: both sides are still meeting. #umfa2021
The PC gov's imposed mandate is preventing fair negotiations with @UMFA_FAUM
The Minister is unwilling to remove the mandate which prolongs the strike, now nearly a month long.
Calling on the PCs to lift the mandate, to get the faculty back to work and students back to class.
Dear "mediator", if this strike continues, IT IS because of the restrictive government mandate and employer intransigence. Were you there the whole time? @CBCNews, it would have been nice to include the point of view of an @UMFA_FAUM rep.
