There is a particular kind of man I find endlessly fascinating, not because he possesses depth or principle, but because of how efficiently he has hollowed himself out. A man who wakes each morning with no convictions to defend, only patrons to serve. Yesterday, he stood - rather noisily, I might add for Betta Edu @edu_betta, a public disgrace briefly mistaken for public service.

Today, he returns, faithful as ever, to defend her ideological twin, the same species of fiscal arsonist who treated Kogi State’s treasury as a personal inconvenience rather than a public trust.

What we are witnessing is not loyalty; it is dependency. Not courage; but a reflex. The reflex of a man who has long confused proximity to power with purpose, and advocacy with rent collection. He does not argue because he believes, he argues because silence would expose him.

And so he performs again. Not for the public, certainly, but for the same corrupt gallery that has already mortgaged Nigeria’s future. A pitiful routine, really. Predictable. Recyclable. Almost comforting in its mediocrity.

The tragedy, of course, is not that such men exist, they always do. It is that they imagine themselves relevant long after their usefulness has expired.
