#Supergirl, directed by #CraigGillespie and written by #AnaNogueira.

Let me say this upfront: I genuinely appreciated what Supergirl was trying to achieve.

@JamesGunn's #DCUniverse has taken a noticeably more liberal, progressive approach, and that political perspective is evident in Superman. This version of #Superman is quite different from the traditional interpretation we've seen over the years. Although he's still Superman, Gunn's film feels like a complete reboot of the character and the wider DC Universe.

Since Supergirl is introduced within that version of the universe, it makes sense that her film follows the same creative direction. She's also a female superhero, so it would be unrealistic to expect the story to ignore her perspective as a woman.

Unlike Superman, Supergirl carries a much deeper emotional burden. The destruction of #Krypton wasn't instant. The attack devastated the planet's surface and exposed Kryptonite, meaning Krypton survived for several more years before finally collapsing. Supergirl was born and grew up on Krypton. Only when the planet's end became inevitable did she follow her parents' wishes and travel to Earth. This gives her memories of Krypton, its people, and the life she lost, something Superman never had.

This film does a good job of establishing Supergirl as a character. It explores her sadness, her strengths, and her weaknesses. The one constant source of comfort in her life is #Krypto.

I absolutely loved #MillyAlcock in the role. She brought an endearing sense of curiosity to the character. I don't know why but feels like just her face itself has a story, her expressions, body language, and overall performance made Supergirl feel genuinely inquisitive and emotionally vulnerable.

@JASONMOMOA_TH's Lobo was another highlight. His entrance reminded me of #Ghatotkacha, who is immortal, sarcastic, larger body, incredibly powerful, and seemingly impossible to kill. He comes and just hels the leads and goes, just like Ghatotkacha from Hindu mythology. He adds plenty of humour while still being an effective ally. Another incredible actor #MatthiasSchoenaerts, always thought how good he is and should already be a star.

Traditionally, superhero films have often been shaped by masculine perspectives, with misogynistic views from the superhero costumes to the action sequences. Modern superhero films are increasingly incorporating liberal, progressive, and feminist ideas into their writing. While that shift is clear in Superman and Supergirl, translating those ideas convincingly to the screen is still relatively new. Perhaps that's one reason why some audiences are struggling to connect with the film.

Could this film have been better? Yes.

However, for what it sets out to do, it succeeds in establishing Supergirl as a distinct character. She's not simply a female version of Superman; she's someone shaped by grief, loneliness, and constant movement. Just as humans travel from country to country to find a change of scenery or a sense of renewal, Supergirl drifts from planet to planet searching for something similar.
I look forward to see what she is going to do next in the further parts.

Ya sé que la semana pasada dije que extrañaba a las primas Watinwanit y lamentaba que se hubieran perdido algunas escenas importantes con ellas del libro a la adaptación, pero después del episodio 6 ahora entiendo el porqué de esta decisión y creo que fue la correcta.

Es verdad que, de las 4 primas Watinwanit, Nam es la menos cercana o cariñosa con sus primas. Está presente en la vida de ellas cuando la necesitan, pero cotidianamente siempre está ocupada con el trabajo. Además es una persona muy reservada que casi nunca busca a sus primas, más bien son las primas las que no dejan de llegar a su hotel o de hacerla parte de sus historias.

Por eso creo que es muy lógico para la adaptación que las primas no estuvieran tan presentes en la historia hasta este punto. En el libro, Nam resuelve todo prácticamente sola y eso tiene mucho sentido para su personaje. En la serie por eso era importante un personaje como Fah, que aporta esas interacciones con Nam qué en los libros son monólogos internos, para conocer y entender mejor su naturaleza.

Pero que las primas no intervinieran hasta este momento demuestra que para Nam éste es un punto de inflexión. Es el momento en el que finalmente acepta que necesita ayuda y que está bien dejarse ayudar. Qué no tiene por qué cargar con todo sola y que su familia siempre está ahí para ella porque la aman. Es el momento en el que, por el amor que siente hacia Chonlada, está dispuesta a hacer incluso lo que no habría hecho antes.

Los dos últimos episodios contienen escenas igualmente fundamentales para la historia de Apo y Chonlada, pero ahora son las primas Watinwanit las que toman el relevo y se encargarán de ayudar a Nam hasta la conclusión. Quizá el orden de los momentos son un poco diferentes al libro, pero la esencia de la importancia de las primas y su presencia en los momentos más críticos se mantiene.

Ahora con las primas a su lado, estoy segura de que Nam podrá recuperar a Chonlada 🥹🤍
