I take this walk
to feel the raw and wild,
a distant crow that calls to the sky
knowing it will never reach it
no matter how many times
it tries
I take it for the wind
that hustles me one way
then buffets me
another
knowing that a breath,
its brother, is my life

Bella became part of our family 2 years ago, Thanksgiving night. She was 3 months old. We are so grateful for the joy and love and fun she brings to us
Kyle, the teenage murderer, should be shunned e.g. Game of Thrones as a reminder of his anti-personel behavior. He should also receive intense psychotherapy least his taste for blood begets more killing. The public needs to be shielded from weapons like Kyle.
Last night I rode a bicycle
with no handlebars
half motor
half pedal pump
and it seemed
I could fly
over mountains
return to memories
of far-off lands
Some call it a dream
but I pronounce it
the inner realm
that frees you
from rusty disbelief

This maple lets go of its leaves
in August, inviting
the wind, as some people do,
before its time
Something other than life tugs
at their will, seduces them
into an early date
with darkness
And others hold on
until the wind removes them
with its fury, or they
forget to breathe
Clueless Americans don’t realize that they have been fighting and dying in Afghanistan to support the production of the very opiates that are killing their sons and daughters in epidemic fashion for decades. The Poppy is the only reason we stayed after killing Ben Laden, Get Out!
Stop offering incentives for getting the COVID 19 vaccine and saving their own life. Instead fine anyone entering the hospital with Covid 19 without the vaccine. Fault them for endangering the life of others and taking up hospital beds selfishly. Money to care providers at $500/p
My mother was not one of the strong black women celebrated. Addicted to religion she abandoned our bond at age 9. Belief was safer than reality. So I celebrate all the women, including my wife, who weather the tides and love forever.
"Where have you been?" she asked
I took a trip to Guadalupe
to look at sunsets bright
roller-skated
in my socks
for the sheer delight
sang a song the moon
consumed
in its bodacious light
did all of this while you snoozed
in the dark begonia night

By candlelight Newton
accounted for the tides
knowing that light
would surrender him
to the sea in time
They say we'll never
emerge from masks
any more than
a wave from gravity
by crashing on the shore
Newton sighed
by candlelight
for the necktie
of night
he wore
Judi and I got our COVID vaccine's first shot yesterday, barely felt it happen. Have a strong apprehension for the medical community but, trust the stats of over a 100million successes before me. Brothers and sisters (all) better to be safe than sorry, get yours.
Each morning restores us
from the depths
of sleep
as we climb
out of frizzy dreams
Hello, lake. Hello, trees.
What makes you think
you are any more
than what we
concoct in sleep?
I search for solid earth
taste the wind
tell myself
that this my dream
will someday end
@atmyself@StoryHaikuTanka On one side of the scale is all of life's challenges, on the other is the love of my l/wife and she tips the mark. I'll be born again.
