Black people started Memorial Day.
It was originally called Decoration Day and it included a parade, but the most remarkable detail to me is that the newly freed dug up bodies of Union soldiers from mass graves, identified them and gave proper burials.

There are some hard truths here, and every Democrat needs to watch this segment.
African Americans are being targeted because we are the most consistent Democratic voting bloc. White voters have not voted majority Democratic since the passage of the Civil Rights Act more than 50 years ago. The GOP knows this.
We have to start speaking with one voice about court reform.
Today, more white folks need to be willing to call this out for what it is: white supremacy in action.
#BREAKING: The SCOTUS decision re Louisiana boils down to this: Per the 2020 census, Blacks make up a third of Louisiana’s population. It was therefore fair that out of the 6 House districts in LA, 2 of them be majority Black districts, you know, a third of them
When the predominantly White LA state lege drew up the congressional districts, they made only 1 out of the 6 districts majority Black, instead of two, upon which a lawsuit was filed. MAGA SCOTUS has basically sided with 1 out of 6 side.
When you look at it that way, the INJUSTICE is unmistakable. SAD🤦♀️
@Chris_Broussard This is lazy and morally reckless. It collapses two entirely different kinds of questions into one “both sides are crazy” pile and pretends that is prophetic balance. It is a false equivalency, and false equivalencies always end up protecting power while punishing the vulnerable.

If your Jesus only saves nations and never neighbors, needs a gun and a cage to feel secure, can watch another death and ask first about compliance instead of conscience, then what you are defending is not Christ.
It is empire with a Bible.
January 15, 1968. Daddy celebrating his 39th birthday…the last one he would celebrate before he was assassinated on April 4th of that same year.
Not a long life. But it was a large life.
Thank you for commemorating him today. Let’s move forward to challenge and conquer hate, inhumanity, and injustice, and to, as he said, “make of this old world a new world.”

Ashamed to say I'd never heard Dr Martin Luther King Jr's acceptance of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize. Such a contrast to discussions today about the award. So we played King's comments on-air.
“Are we okay with there no longer being any type of shared morality amongst us as Americans that trumps our political affiliations?
… I’m not, and deep down in your heart, I have to believe you’re not okay with it either.”
@getnickwright Thank you for speaking truth to power, Nick. I could not agree more. Sadly, language does much of the work. People are no longer neighbors but threats. Deaths are no longer tragedies, but consequences. Violence is no longer regrettable, but justified.
