If you use Amoxicillin, Azithromicin or any other antibiotic for flu/cold, you are part of those who are "abusing drugs".
And, in this case the consequences are affecting the whole community(drug resistance) not just you
Without this, they don't feel like you have optimally treated them or their child, my people.
If you see them not leaving consultation room but not saying anything, they are asking for it.
If you remain quiet, seconds later " aren't you injecting me " or " this usually goes away with an injection"๐
Unlike paracet or brufen, amoxicillin can not be taken when ever you feel like.
Amoxicillin or any other antibiotic is taken as full course, let's say the course is 7 days even if you feel okay on day 4 it doesn't mean the bacteria is completely dead, continue to day 7 as prescribed by your Dr.
Leaving the bacteria wounded makes the bacteria develop resistance to that particular antibiotic, making it difficult to treat and we have very limited alternative antibiotics.
And, amoxicillin does not treat flu.

Theย single best way to reduce the risk of seasonal colds, flu and its potentially serious complications is to getย the yearly flu vaccine. We aren't familiar with this measure in our local setting but the vaccine is locally available.
Below are steps you can also take to protect yourself and others from flu.
1)Avoid close contact with people who have flu symptoms. When you have flu, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick, too.
2)Stay home when you are sick.
You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
โข Your symptoms are getting better overall,ย and
โข You have not had a fever (and are not using fever reducing medication)
-Lead with context. If Iโm waking @DGlaucomflecken at 2 am and lead with a rambling story about a 44yo man who couldnโt sleep so was lying in bed holding his phone but then got startled by his cat and dropped his phone on his face and now has his R eye with a curtain falling

Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Black Males, 1932-1972
The Tuskegee experiment began in 1932, at a time when there was no known cure for syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease/infection (STI). After being recruited by the promise of free medical care, 600 African American men in Alabama were enrolled in the project, which aimed to study the full progression of the disease - till one die.
Doctors from the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS), which was running the study, informed the participantsโ399 men with syphilis and a control group of 201 others who were free of the diseaseโthey were being treated for bad blood, a term commonly used in the area at the time to refer to a variety of ailments like anaemia, fatigue etc.
The men were monitored by health workers but only given placebos (medication prescribed for psychological benefit only, with no therapeutic use), despite the fact that penicillin became the standard treatment for syphilis in 1947, some 15 years into the study. PHS researchers convinced local doctors in Alabama to withhold penicillin to the participants so they could continue with their research at the Tuskegee Institute.
In order to track the diseaseโs full progression, researchers provided no effective care, the men died, went blind or insane or experienced other severe health problems due to their untreated syphilis.
In the mid-1960s, a PHS sexually transmitted diseases investigator in San Francisco named Peter Buxton found out about the Tuskegee study and expressed his concerns to his superiors that it was unethical. In response, PHS officials formed a committee to review the study but ultimately opted to continue itโwith the goal of tracking the participants until all had died, autopsies were performed and the project data could be analyzed.
Buxton then leaked the story to a reporter friend, who passed it on to a fellow reporter, Jean Heller of the Associated Press. Heller broke the story in July 1972, prompting public outrage and forcing the study to finally shut down.
By that time, 28 participants had perished from syphilis, 100 more had passed away from related complications, at least 40 spouses had been diagnosed with it and the disease had been passed to 19 children at birth.
As a result of the Tuskegee experiment, many blacks developed a lingering, deep mistrust of health promotion activities, medical research programs and vaccines not only in USA but world over. Blacks today may not know of this specific study but are aware of historical unfair treatment in health circles.

11. Are there support groups in Zimbabwe? If you have been diagnosed with dementia, know that you are not alone. There is a support group + association in Zimbabwe (ZARDA) @ZimAlzheimersA1. They can provide you with more information and support. End (feel free to interact)
1. Promised to do a thread on dementia. I didnโt realise it was going to be difficult to do it in an easy and digestible manner. This is an introduction, we can expand on this at a later stage. But letโs go. Dementia, a thread
Urinary tract infection(UTI) prevention 101,
Ladies, your urine and poo outlets are too close to each putting you at higher risk, so,
After using the toilet, wipe from front to back.
Feminine wash is not necessary & has no medical benefit.
Vagina & vulva(outer genitals) are fine by themselves, & assaulting them with soaps, perfumes, creams, and gels is likely to cause more harm than good - increased risk of infections etc.
If you are worried about a change in your vaginal odor go to hospital. A fishy odor often signals infection.
The vagina is a self-cleaning organ that does not require any cleaning products at all
Cleaning the vulva should be a part of your daily hygiene routine and warm water is all you need to adequately clean it.
