"Broken Wings" was written at the home of vocalist Richard Page. The title and main inspiration came from the book The Broken Wings by the Lebanese writer Kahlil Gibran. The RCA label did not want to release this track as the first single (preferred something more agitated), but the band insisted. The track reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1985, stayed there for two weeks and became the biggest hit of their career.
