To find out, Invictus Africa surveyed 11,196 eligible voters across all 36 states and the FCT (@NigeriaGov).

The Voters' Preference Survey Series provides Nigeria's first nationally representative evidence on what voters think about women, young people, and persons with disabilities as political candidates ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The findings challenge long-held assumptions, uncover structural barriers to inclusive representation, and provide evidence to inform conversations about Nigeria's democratic future.

In two days, Nigerians in six states will head to the polls for the June 20 bye-elections.

Twenty candidates are on the ballot. Not one is a woman.

As the country prepares for the 2027 general elections, this is a reminder that women continue to face barriers to political representation.

From the high cost of campaigns and exclusion from political networks to harassment, intimidation, and violence, the political playing field is uneven.

And when women are missing from the ballot, their perspectives will be missing from the decisions that shape our lives.

This is a real win for survivors in Abia State, and it deserves to be celebrated.

In May 2015, Nigeria passed the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act - the first federal law to explicitly criminalise rape, domestic violence, and harmful traditional practices.

11 years later, 35 states have enacted the law.

But the challenge is no longer just adoption; it is implementation.

In 2025, Invictus Africa conducted a nationwide survey to assess how the law is being implemented. Many people are still unaware of the law, enforcement is inconsistent, survivors are not getting enough support, and response systems are not working together as they should.

Did you know that the Nigerian Constitution supports equality?

Section 42 of the Constitution states that no Nigerian should face discrimination or unfair treatment based on their community, ethnic group, place of origin, sex, religion, or political opinion.

Yet, in reality, this protection is poorly implemented, especially for women in Nigeria.

Laws should not exist only on the pages of the Constitution.
Women’s rights must go beyond promises on paper.

We continue to advocate for the shift from constitutional words to real action for women.

When a phone call becomes a death trap...

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, 21-year-old Mojisola Awesu was deceived by a phone call inviting her to an event. That call led to her disappearance, and ultimately her death, as her body was later found dumped in a garbage site in Ilorin, Kwara State.

As we count down to the launch of the 2025 Womanity Index, we are forced to ask a painful but necessary question:

What does justice truly look like for victims and survivors of gender-based violence in Nigeria?

The Womanity Index challenges decision-makers, institutions, and communities to strengthen systems, not in theory, but in real, measurable, human impact.

📊 Does a Woman’s Region Influence Her Risk of Mistimed or Unwanted Pregnancies?

The unmet need for family planning varies across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, with the Northeast recording the highest rate at 22.9% and the Southwest at 19.1%.

Yet, the difference between the highest and lowest regions is only 3.8%, revealing that this small margin underscores a bigger issue.

Women in Nigeria still struggle to access adequate information, healthcare, and resources they need to make informed reproductive choices.

To truly call it progress, we must first close that gap.
