Data Center Watch is live.
We make it easier for people to see where data centers are being proposed, what’s already documented, and what currently needs public records work. The site is currently in beta and data is still being accumulated and added live. Updates will be being pushed regularly.
The map tracks proposed and operating sites, sources, NDA/secrecy leads, public money, water, power, and community-submitted evidence. You can also submit sources or FOIA updates for review for data that we are missing, and submit corrections when we got it wrong.

Thousands of years of human civilization. The invention of electricity. Nuclear power. Billions of dollars in infrastructure and hundreds of thousands of man-hours. All so we could build machines capable of retaining the contents of Hunter Biden's laptop in perpetuity.
We’re using AI to build a platform that tracks the infrastructure powering AI.
A look at the stack behind DataCenterWatch:
Codex develops the website and research tools. ChatGPT independently reviews checkpoints. GitHub carries the feedback between them, and local supervisors pick up the next authorized task.
On the editorial side, we’re building around @ai17zOS, Docker and a local model running through Ollama.
The next step is connecting that agent to our sourced project data so it can spot interesting developments, research angles and draft posts for human review.
We’re also expanding a private dashboard to bring project status, research ideas and approvals into one space.
The goal is to spend less time maintaining software and moving information between tools, and more time investigating where data centers are going, who’s paying for them and what the compute will actually do.
Still connecting the pieces.
pushing major updates to the data center web as we speak. setting up agents to take over the buildout autonomously from here now that the project goals are clear. you should start seeing much more progress soon.
The scale of proposed data center infrastructure is getting difficult to comprehend.
https://t.co/5BB2VO9aoK is now tracking individual projects reporting 5 GW, 9.2 GW, 10 GW and even 12 GW of potential capacity.
At some point, “AI demand” stops being a sufficient explanation.
What, specifically, is all this compute going to be used for?
We're going to start tracking that too.
We noticed something interesting while tracing the money behind the growing data center political fight.
Some of the same investors backing Flock Safety are also funding the political network now spending millions to promote U.S. data center development.
We're digging deeper and will be tracking the connections.
