Many of us won't have energy for #datadump chats at this understandably stressful time for our work and personal lives, so regrettably we're signing out for the forseeable future. Stay well.
@DataDumpChat pt.3, In my opinion, we need more diverse representation within the tableau datafam community, then we can have a more collaborative approach on how we can use to data to help address the disproportionate issues of racism within the black community.
Its a wrap for today then, just because you missed the live chat doesn't stop you commenting though. We'd love to hear the thoughts on more of the community.
Thanks @ItsCandraM @databiscuits @AlDatavizguy @katebrown_5 @WindsCogley @LukeWiebolt @JSBaucke @s0_s0w for the input.
Final question: how can white folks in the community be good allies? We've heard about reading, history, donating, what else should we look to doing to support Black members of the community?
Thanks for your input everyone, I for one have found it tremendously instructive (but exhausting). Are there any other discussion points for this topic before we close out?
@DataDumpChat One thing I want to call out is it's on all of us to stop racism. We can't make change with half the room and it's important to tend to our own gardens. Have those hard talks. Call out racist comments. I'm consciously amplifying resources, donating, etc for the long run.
@DataDumpChat pt.1 It's important to have people who are affected by issues of racism and teach them to tell their own story using the medium they prefer? It's easy to create a viz on a viral matter without taking into consideration the people that are affected by this narrative.
@DataDumpChat From a data ethics standpoint, I go back to "nothing about us without us." I've seen @databiscuits seek testing from particular users to ensure ethical viz. @katebrown_5 has another example I showcase. It's key whoever is in your viz has authority over their story.
Q3. Would love to pick up on this, how can we use data and #dataviz skills to help explore issues around equality and racism? Whats the right way to do this especially at such a sensitive time?

Its time and so here is @ChrisLuv kicking off today's #datadump twitter chat. The last few days have seen another unnecessary death of a Black american and worldwide protests at the violence that continues towards Black communities.
The Black community is hurting. Our Black Members, instructors, music partners and employees are hurting. #BlackLivesMatter, and it’s time to take action. To start, we're making a $500,000 donation to NAACP LDF. We have more work to do. Will you join us?
Tomorrow at 8pm BST (3pm EST and 12 noon PDT) let's resurrect @DataDumpChat and talk about how we can all be better allies for the Black and African American members of our community and anyone experiencing racism.
