Early Music[ological] Nerdery has just led me to discover that one of my all-time favourite carols (I Saw Three Ships) appears to have come to England up the Humber, and was initially about people comporting skulls around in jewelled caskets. Even in the 18th C, #NeverDullInHull

THE PLOT THICKENS apparently the skulls stopped over in the estuary on their journey and this is believed to be the reason why Hull has an insignia of... Three Crowns! Aw I love me a good yarn!
