Toronto mayor Olivia Chow, who promised only a "modest" property tax increase when she campaigned, is now proposing the single biggest property tax increase since amalgamation in 1998.

Toronto property tax increases:
2020: 4.24%
2021: 0.7%
2022: 2.9%
2023: 7% (5.5 plus 1.5 for the City Building Fund)
2024: 10.5% (9 plus 1.5 for the City Building Fund) The proposed amount is the largest since amalgamation and more than triple the rate of inflantion- 3.12%
