Legendary singer-songwriter Neil Sedaka has passed away at the age of 86 following a medical emergency this morning.

Within Gundam, he is best known as the composer behind Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam’s iconic theme songs “Zeta – Toki wo Koete,” “Mizu no Hoshi e Ai no Komete,” and “Hoshizora no Believe.”

Director Yoshiyuki Tomino was a big fan of Sedaka’s work and wanted a different musical direction for mecha anime at the time. He sought to incorporate Sedaka’s music into Zeta Gundam and had several of his songs licensed and adapted for the series, including “For Us to Decide,” “Better Days Are Coming,” and “Bad and Beautiful.”
