@congressdj @brandenflasch My Rheem HPWH uses around 500 kWh/yr. Super inexpensive and efficient.

Could be even cheaper with a newer model that is more efficient at higher temps and a thermostatic mixing valve and load shifting for TOU rates, but not worth it given my hot water demands.

@mzjacobson I'd like to be optimistic, but similar things were said in 2008 when oil prices skyrocketed, too. Renewables have come a LONG way since then, so am hoping this further speeds the transition along.

@itskyleconner @YTJustGetATesla Yep, just look at Tesla - great peak charge rates, but only at a very low state of charge. If the cars could hold 250 kW up to 80%, you'd cut charge times in half or more.

@JackBravo365 @slye While technically a two stage has variable speeds, it's two separate compressors that alternate operations as needed. Variable speed systems modulate the speed of a single outdoor compressor so you always get the right amount of heating or cooling.

Meanwhile I ask for a part number for the so called gasket that has worn out and I got ghosted, and the noise is slowly getting worse. 3/4

But the one on the right has oysters.

A single oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day.

Oyster reefs in the Chesapeake Bay once filtered the entire Bay, 19 trillion gallons, in under a week.

Today, with less than 1% of the original oyster population remaining, it takes over a year.

We ate them. We dredged their reefs. We dumped nitrogen into their water until the algae blooms choked what was left.

And now we build billion dollar water treatment plants to do what oysters did for free.

The Billion Oyster Project is working to restore oyster reefs in New York Harbor.

Restored reefs in Maryland's Harris Creek can now filter the entire creek in under 10 days and remove nitrogen equivalent to 20,000 bags of fertilizer every year.

Nature had this figured out. We just have to restore the oysters and get out of the way.
