Not leaving Twitter exactly, but with all the drama here I think my microblogging center of gravity will increasingly shift to Mastodon Social. I'm @[email protected] there.
Twitter reencoded the GIF & downsampled or something so that you can't really see Phobos in the purple frame, so here are the individual frames. Note that Phobos moves relative to Mars, but not as much as the star at the bottom (HIP 23550) appears to.
Phobos. After 10 years of trying, I think I only managed to image it this morning because I accidentally had the red channel gain on my ZWO ASI178MC dialed way down. Taken 17 minutes apart. I think that's Deimos hiding in the re-leveled circle on the green frame, too.
Supplemented an SSD upgrade with a glowy keyboard, converting my saved-from-the-dumpster DELL Latitude E6410 into what I expect will be an astrophotography powerhouse. Chonky, but rugged! Probably couldn't quite survive on Mars, but sure as heck will image it.
If anybody's still using this website, here's my new "Guardabarranco" Arcade-style game controller. The brass hinges in back are touch-sensitive shoulder "buttons"! Build details: https://t.co/zuHoLQsIv7
"Honoring" Adric this week on Dr. Who: "IT REALLY WAS A SHAME ABOUT ADRIC’S DEATH. UNSUBSCRIBE FROM FLIGHT ATTENDANTS ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA? YOU HAVEN'T OPENED ANY EMAILS FROM THIS SENDER IN THE LAST MONTH"
Re-wired a T8 fluorescent tube light fixture for standard LED after intermittent issues with Phillips’s “Universal” LED lights, which were supposed to just work with “most” old-timey ballasts. A little work, but so much lighter now! Like Christmas lights in a case.
This is pretty obscure, but I've written a program to hack 3-note polyphony into trash80/Ym2149Synth devices when operated by a single-channel MIDI controller: https://t.co/qF5c7oCBWg
Had a 3D keyboard printed for my PocketC.H.I.P., but couldn't type well using blank keys. Solution: handwrote on keycaps with permanent marker. Then brushed-on superglue for sealant, so the legends wouldn't rub off. Smudged a bit, but I'm happy with the results!
I made my own cyberdeck out of a PiBoy DMG (with a Raspberry Pi inside), some wood, a fresnel magnifier, some screws and lots of glue. The Terry Gilliam's Brazil-inspired lens does a surprisingly good job of making text readable without the reduced battery life of a larger LCD.
Still a little cramped and the "other" joystick could be better, but I'm finding that MAME looks better when the Retroid Pocket 2+ is rotated vertical. To hack the necessary core-specific configuration, I use the 32-bit RetroArch for MAME, and the 64-bit version for other cores.
I will probably continue tweeting about inconsequential stuff, but please don't take that to mean I'm not incensed about Republican attacks on Democracy, kids and body autonomy.
I finally found a dual-boot solution that doesn't require me to remember which magic function key leads to the BIOS menu and press it the instant my PC starts up… a Drive Switch! Toggles protrude out back. Takes me from Ubuntu 19 to Windows 10 to Ubuntu 20 to whatever's next.
The best reason to put custom firmware on Nintendo 3DS is hax0kartik/rehid. I can finally play Virtual Console games with button mappings that resemble the layouts on the controllers these games were originally played with.
Many are fond of dumping on desktop Linux, but Gnome's split-screen beats all. The one on macOS hides the clock & menubar, the one on Windows 10 doesn't update as you resize, and I can only ever seem to activate the one on iOS by accident.
Just completed some improvements to our home-made LED Array projector for the 2021 Holiday Season. I built a dedicated screen stand, with a reflective Mylar back to increase brightness. I also added a Rudolph animation at my daughter's suggestion.
