Very Important:
Michelle Bullock and the board of the RBA know this and are in advanced panic mode. A majority of our taxes come from mining, farming and fishing export companies selling prooducts around the world. Most of these contracts are in US dollars. The problem we have is this, when Aussie interest rates rise and are predicted to keep rising foreign cash investments flow into our banks. This puts pressure on our dollar and as you have seen it has risen from 0.65 to 0.71 cents (about 10%) in the very recent weeks. This will continue.
It is projected to reach 0.75 and as high as 0.80 cents in the months to come. Here is the problem, this will decrease the income for exporters in Aussie dollars and the tax they will pay. Hence tax revenue will drop significantly in a short space of time. This will see the Federal and State (from mining royalties) budgets destroyed and the government will have no control over it. You think personal taxes are high now. Just wait.
