Fantastic work from @Phil_Bellinger & co, further advancing our understanding of the physiological responses to training. And a great 🧵 from @jem_arnold unpacking it all 👇
Very cool study from Ben Southey
Outlines clear methodology for "single case experimental design" for reactive strength development
Such designs could be used much more often in elite sport, n=1 environments

A must read paper that I go back to often:
Does initial strength level affect adaptations to weightlifting, plyometric & ballistic training?
STRONG (2.01x BW squat) vs WEAKER (1.20x BW squat) groups
10 wk intervention: weightlifting derivatives, ballistic & plyo training

Jude Thomas🇦🇺 with a break out performance
Thomas was apparently training the house down at Falls and his bests of 3:37 / 3:56 were looking shakey
He gets a run at the Husky Classic🇺🇸 on the 307m, no banks track and takes charge of the race 300m out to finish a close 🥈 behind Nico Young🇺🇸 in 3:51.19
Just misses WiC & WCH entry standards but will be within the WiC ‘top list’

It was a town hero's welcome for Matt Denny in Allora, 160km south-west of Brisbane.
He is the first Olympian to come from Allora and is now their first Olympic medallist.

The hallmark of expertise is no longer how much you know. It's how well you synthesize.
Information scarcity rewarded knowledge acquisition. Information abundance requires pattern recognition.
It's not enough to collect facts. The future belongs to those who connect dots.
Remote work is not a distraction. It's a chance to concentrate.
Government workers were 28% more productive on days when supervisors assigned them tasks to do at home, because they were more focused.
The office is good for interaction, but it's not always ideal for deep work.

Injury rates and stiffness represent a U-shaped curve.
Stiffer tendons = faster we can transmit force produced by muscle. Performance benefit.
But if tendon is "stiffer than the muscle is strong" this can lead to non-contact muscle injury.
Performance ⚖️ Injury potential
What can't these girls do? 🤯

Fast twitch fibers grow more than slow twitch fibers after strength training. Therefore, there will be a correlation between metabolite production (by fast twtich fibers) and hypertrophy. But metabolic stress is still not a hypertrophy mechanism.
