Non-denominationalism destroyed American Protestantism. Non-denominationalism took a whole generation out of the Mainlines and caused their kids to go Catholic in reaction. I will NOT link arms with non-denominationals in my efforts to defend Protestantism. I hope it goes extinct

I always find it funny when Catholics quote 4th century church fathers as if they are basically the friends of the original apostles. Thats like me saying Obama is an authoritative source on the teachings of the US founding fathers. Obviously the church fathers had a lot of thinking and knowledge we can learn from but the fact that they held some theological position doesnt make it any more Biblically credible.
The Lutheran self-identity (that we are THE Western Catholic Church cleansed) shouldn't merely be something used in social media bios or edits/memes.
This narrative needs to be pushed hard, in both discourse and proselytizing. We're not "just another Bible-based Christian sect."
Contrast this with the pre-1950 practice when even in the midst of great crises (WWI, WWII for example) top leaders still took time to write diaries, retire to country estates, and so forth
In 1938, Roosevelt spends almost a month cruising onboard on a US Navy cruiser down the Pacific coast of Mexico, visits the Galapagos and Clipperton, then back to the Caribbean via Panama and disembarks in Pensacola
Chamberlain maintains his hobby of birding in the fall of 1939.
By comparison today, world leaders when nothing especially acute is happening never seem to have time. They’re barely sleeping, “always on”. There’s a cult of busyness in the modern world that seems inescapable. It’s undoubtedly a byproduct of our information ecosystem - everything is a media effect! - but nonetheless is a distinct phenomenon of our present moment
“Luther removed books from the Bible!”
No he didn’t. Our canon is only one book off from the canon proposed by Clement of Rome. We included Revelation, he did not. And the 66 book canon was preferred by St. Jerome. You know, the guy who translated the Vulgate. This was all long before the Great Schism, and no canon was declared at any ecumenical counsel. The Papists weren’t even bound to a particular canon until the Counsel of Trent.
