Facebook just suggested that I add Francis Fukuyama as a friend. That was a bit emotional. We had a lot of history. That was until the early 1990s when he ended it.
Just a reminder that New Zealand has not reelected a government after a change of prime minister since the Second World War. English lost 2017, Shipley lost 1999, Moore 1990, Rowling 1975, Marshall 1972, Holyoake 1957. I don't know if Labour can break this trend. #nzpol
@Nicolas_Reid "If this plane doesn't get 10,000 words on territorial disputes in the South China Sea in the next two hours then, well, may God have mercy on us all."
Just got on a plane and the flight attendant asked "Dr Belgrave, what's your specialty?" I said "politics". She said "oh you're not much use then."
😂 but also 😟
@drsteveu We are the Frankenstein discipline. We steal from the others and build something new. When I listen to my sociologists friends I think, "wow, politics is like sociology. Expect politics is, like, not boring". 😂
@BenThomasNZ Are we heading for a repeat of 2005 where there's a degree of public dissatisfaction but National unable to articulate a credible alternative in both policy and leadership? Luxon's lack of understanding of public policy certainly reminds me of Brash.
Luxon thinks public transport shouldn't be subsidised and also says he "hasn't considered the subject much". He ran a partially state-owned transport company!🤦
Christopher Luxon not keen on public transport subsidies today. Repeating that PT should stand on its own. When I reminded him most PT is subsidised and has been for a long time, he said he hadn't considered the subject much. https://t.co/LK2U0fiWX3

@JediWilson21@simonseancoffey@jacktame This gives more detail. It's younger Māori that aren't vaccinated. This is dated 27 Sept. https://t.co/OIGA7dkMhq
It's quickly looking like NZ's success in eliminating covid is being undone by its failure to deal with inequality. Again and again overcrowding is harming the community. Fixing housing is vital to fixing public health.
“New Zealand’s zero Covid strategy has had frightening consequences. A once-welcoming nation is turning into an isolated dystopia, where liberties are taken away in a heartbeat and outsiders are shunned.”
