CEUTA PROVES THE POINT: A STATE THAT CANNOT CONTROL ITS BORDER CANNOT CONTROL ANYTHING ELSE

TAIMID Ireland says Europe "did not pass a test — it survived a warning shot," and sets out the border, energy, policing and food-security programme it would put before the Irish people

DUBLIN — Between Wednesday 29 and Friday 31 July, an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 people crossed from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta — a city of just 84,000 residents. Spain's Interior Ministry put the figure at 50,000; the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, put it at 60,000. It is the largest single crossing of its kind in the history of the European Union. At least 72 people died attempting it.

Spain deployed the army, installed a floating maritime barrier and returned some 48,000 people to Morocco within days. Italy temporarily suspended Schengen arrangements with Spain, backed by Finland and Denmark. Twenty-two of the EU's twenty-seven member states signed a joint letter demanding "coordinated action and the strengthening of external borders," warning explicitly of "hybrid threats." Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez described the crossing as "an attack, a violation of Spain's territorial sovereignty."

Yesterday, an emergency meeting of EU interior and justice ministers was convened by Ireland's Minister for Justice, Jim O'Callaghan, because Ireland currently holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Following the meeting, EU Migration Commissioner Magnus Brunner declared that Europe "has definitely passed this test."

Twenty-two governments wrote a letter begging for control of a frontier they were told was already secure. That is not a passed test. That is a warning shot, and Ireland — holding the Presidency, chairing the meeting — has a duty to hear it rather than applaud."

"Every Irish family watching Ceuta understood something the communiqué did not say: a state that cannot decide who enters cannot decide anything else. It cannot plan housing. It cannot plan hospitals. It cannot plan schools. It ends up managing a permanent emergency and calling it policy."

Borders: national control, not delegated control

TAIMID's Irish Immigration Control Act would restore decision-making on entry to the Dáil, where the 1916 Proclamation placed it. The party notes that Ireland's own International Protection Act 2026, commenced on 12 June, binds Irish asylum procedure to the EU Migration and Asylum Pact — screening rules, deadlines and border procedures designed elsewhere.

TAIMID would introduce an electronic entry visa for all arrivals, including EU nationals, verified by Garda officers at the border, and would remove any non-national convicted of a crime within ten days. The party states openly that this requires amending the 2006 Free Movement Regulations and renegotiating Directive 2004/38/EC, and it will make that argument in public rather than in footnotes.

"We are not asking Ireland to be unwelcoming," Mr Carroll said. "Every legal resident, worker, student and visitor stays welcome. We are asking Ireland to be governed."

1975— Homogeneous Irish Catholic community. Large families. Traditional culture, faith, and social cohesion visible in everyday life. One of the most ethnically uniform countries in Europe.

2025 — Rapid demographic transformation under decades of mass immigration. Native Irish now a shrinking share in their own capital. Scenes at ordinary bus stops reflect the scale of change.

This is not organic evolution. It aligns with the patterns explored in the United Nations Population Division's 2000 report "Replacement Migration: Is It a Solution to Declining and Ageing Populations?(ESA/P/WP.160).

These are not forecasts the UN was recommending as policy, but mathematical illustrations of what migration levels would be required given sub-replacement (well below 2.1) across Europe, including Ireland. Ireland's TFR has long been below replacement, like most EU countries.

The visual contrast above captures the real-world outcome of sustained high net migration into low-fertility Western European nations. Dublin has gone from one of the most Irish cities in Ireland to one where native Irish are becoming a minority in significant areas — a pattern repeated across many European capitals.

The UN report warned that such large-scale replacement migration would have profound social, cultural, economic, and political problems.
Those implications are now visible on the streets of Dublin in 2025.
