The idea that Americans think these everyday experiences are unique to the US is baffling. The items that you can buy over the counter that I find concerning are firearms
One unexpected, but pleasant, side effect of the World Cup is hearing every day things that we take for granted here in America.
People from other countries are amazed that you can walk into Home Depot and buy a door. They are amazed that you can buy things over-the-counter like ibuprofen and melatonin.
Watching visitors experience America through fresh eyes is a good reminder that a lot of what feels ordinary to us is anything but.
AI in schools is like fire: useful on the gas hob, dangerous in the curtains.
It can help students think harder, practise better and get better feedback. It can also bypass thinking entirely and undermine motivation .
The question isn’t whether AI belongs in education but whether it can be harnessed to support what we value.

I started my teacher training in 2017. Last month, there was only me and one other person who I did my PGCE with that was still teaching.
Now, I am the only person who was on my course that is still a teacher today.
The speed teachers leave the profession is immense.
“AI is useful when it helps students think more clearly, practise more deliberately and become less dependent over time. It’s dangerous when it makes weak understanding look strong, makes effort feel pointless, or allows adults to outsource decisions they ought to own.”
