Okon sends bold warning to Canada ahead of World Cup showdown
Bafana Bafana defender Ime Okon has fired an early warning to Canada, insisting South Africa will bring the same fearless attitude that stunned South Korea when the two nations clash in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 on Sunday.
The towering centre-back believes Bafana's relentless fighting spirit will once again be their biggest weapon as they chase a historic place in the last 16.
Hugo Broos' men booked their place in the knockout stages for the first time in South African football history after a deserved 1-0 victory over South Korea. Although the scoreline was narrow, Bafana dominated large spells of the encounter and created several clear-cut scoring opportunities.
Speaking to the media before the game, Okon praised the team's unity and determination, saying every player gave everything for the badge.
"I think everyone showed heart and fought hard on the pitch for that win against Korea. Sometimes you can't even name one person who didn't do much, we all just fought for one another," said the Hannover 96 defender.
With Canada now standing between Bafana and another piece of history, Okon revealed the squad has already begun preparing for the tournament co-hosts.
"We've done some analysis on them, and we know they are a very aggressive team that likes to press and play on the counter. I think we will be ready for them."
South Africa will face Canada in Los Angeles on Sunday at 9pm, with a place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 at stake. Judging by Okon's confidence, Bafana believe their fairytale run is far from over.
Sipho Mbule seals overseas move after Orlando Pirates exit
Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Sipho Mbule has officially found a new club after completing a move to Iraqi Stars League outfit Zakho SC.
The 28-year-old was released by the Buccaneers earlier this month after the club decided not to renew his contract, bringing an end to his short stay at Mayfair.
On Saturday, Mbule finally broke his silence on his departure, taking to social media to thank the Pirates supporters.
"Thanks for the year that was filled with more happy moments than sad moments," Mbule wrote.
"Till we meet again... To Orlando Pirates fans, thanks for everything... for the love, for the noise and the belief!"
Shortly afterwards, Zakho SC officially unveiled the South African midfielder as their latest signing ahead of the 2026/27 season.
"South African player Sipho Mbule has officially signed with our club for the 2026/2027 season in the Iraqi Stars Football League," the club announced.
The Iraqi side praised Mbule's qualities, describing him as a midfielder capable of transforming their team.
"Sipho Mbule stands out for his impressive speed and intelligence, with the ability to dictate the flow of the game and dominate the midfield."
"With Sipho's arrival, our midfield will be stronger than ever."
The move offers Mbule a fresh start overseas after his Pirates exit, with the talented midfielder now hoping to revive his career and make his mark in Iraqi football.
SAFA Vice President Anastacia Tsichlas has called for more recognition and investment in Banyana Banyana, stressing that the team is expected to win while not receiving adequate support from the media, corporate South Africa and the football sector.
She made the remarks during the Goals 4 Pads launch event today, hosted by Banyana Banyana and Stayfree, where stakeholders gathered to announce a new initiative aimed at empowering young girls through football.
SARS cracks down on social media influencers over undeclared income
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is cracking down on social media influencers, urging them to regularise their tax affairs as it investigates undeclared income from online content creation and brand partnerships.
With the influencer industry booming, SARS is intensifying efforts to ensure compliance among content creators who earn significant revenue through platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
Tax experts warn that many influencers, particularly those treating their online activities as side hustles, may be unaware of their tax obligations.
Income from sponsored posts, affiliate marketing, and ad revenue is taxable, yet some influencers fail to report it, risking hefty penalties.
SARS has reportedly employed advanced data analytics to track undeclared earnings, cross-referencing social media activity with bank transactions.
The crackdown has sparked mixed reactions. Some influencers argue the tax system is complex for self-employed creators, while others welcome the push for transparency.
As the digital economy grows, SARSโ focus on influencers signals a broader effort to ensure all income streams are accounted for in South Africaโs evolving tax landscape.
Mkhwanazi orders disciplinary action over police vehicle misuse at Estcourt matric farewell
Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has ordered swift disciplinary action against officers caught on video misusing a state vehicle to escort a pupil to a matric farewell in Estcourt.
The viral video shows armed officers using a police van, complete with flashing lights and sirens, to transport a colleagueโs child to Estcourt High Schoolโs red carpet event. The stunt, cheered on by onlookers, has drawn sharp criticism for undermining public safety and wasting state resources.
Mkhwanazi condemned the conduct, saying, โWe cannot afford to have police officers who report for duty but use state resources for their personal gain.โ He directed the Uthukela District Commissioner to remove the officers from active duty and institute urgent disciplinary proceedings.
The commissioner also ordered a financial audit to recover costs of fuel, time, and vehicle use from those involved. He stressed that any misuse of state property from vehicles to stationery could result in dismissal, internal charges, or even criminal prosecution.
This is not the first time such misconduct has surfaced. In 2018, Mkhwanazi also called for an investigation after officers used a Public Order Policing vehicle to escort pupils in Newcastle.
Public reaction to the latest incident has been swift, with many South Africans applauding Mkhwanaziโs firm stance on accountability and professionalism within the SAPS.
South Africa should get closer to Israel. That would be my advice to President @CyrilRamaphosa. Get closer to Israel and stay away from Iran. Simple formula! Itโs how South Africa should position itself in the 21st century. #economy#politics#markets
This is the sad state of journalism in South Africa! Ask too difficult a question, don't follow a script, and your career is over. And it's not just the SABC

So, @RediTlhabi thinks I am "fit for an asylum" because I challenge her constant Jew bating.
I know, us Jews can be "pitiful" and "comical" but we are also not going anywhere. We will challenge and challenge and wont stop.
We have been doing this 1000s of years..
The Ayatollah seems to have gone missing and has not been seen in more than a week. Apparently they have looked everywhere!
This is why it's always a good idea to put an Air Tag in pockets of dictators.
Simple and effective.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed the killing of Behnam Shahriyari, commander of Iranโs Quds Force Weapons Transfer Unit (Unit 190), in an airstrike over 1,000 kilometers from Israel in western Iran.
Shahriyari was responsible for overseeing the transfer of weapons and hundreds of millions of dollars annually to Iranโs proxies, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.
He played a key role in arming groups that have attacked Israel.
His death is seen as a major blow to these terrorist organizationsโ ability to recover and regroup.
