I was 15, interning at my uncle’s IT company in New Jersey, mostly just there to keep myself busy.
One morning, a client walked in because his laptop had been stolen. While my uncle handled the hardware issue, the client started venting about his website.
“I hate our website. You got anyone who can help?”
I had never built a website in my life.
No business card.
No portfolio.
No clue what I was doing.
I was 15.
I popped my head in and said, “I can fix it.”
He hired me.
Truthfully, I completely faked it in that moment.
But that one yes changed everything.
It forced me to learn fast.
It pushed me to figure it out.
It became the start of the next 15 years.
Everything I know about design, clients, and building a creative business started with saying yes before I was ready.
The most valuable skill you can build in your twenties is not confidence.
It is the willingness to say yes before you feel ready, and then get ready real fast.
