Dear @PeterTatchell, when I denounced Operation Midland as a “homosexual witch-hunt”, where were you?
Ann Widdecombe stood by me when it mattered. She was always at the end of a telephone or an email whenever I needed her. She gave me private, public & practical support when it came at a personal & political cost.
That speaks for itself.
It appears that (as many of us have suspected for years) Amnesty believes certain kinds of humans don’t deserve rights: women, girls and those who are proudly same-sex attracted. I hope donors from those groups are taking note.

Inevitably, we’re already seeing those who claim to be ‘kind and compassionate’ celebrating the murder of someone they disagree with politically.
In failing this basic moral test, they reveal their true nature.
Police are investigating the sudden death of former Tory minister turned Reform UK politician Ann Widdecombe over fears she was murdered. https://t.co/RVAxiripjw
Im in shock … Why would you sum up a remarkable life in this way?
Calling a murdered woman a “spinster” “old maid” and then disparagingly refer to her virginity?
Wtf has that got to do with you? Or any of her life’s achievements, which were immense.
Oh this is shameful
Boulton shows his true colours here.
Ann had her detractors but she had the good grace to be able to see beyond politics.
She was far too kind to use that kind of language to describe her political rivals.
She will be missed by those on all sides.
RIP Ann.
Adam Boulton is a pig in appearance and attitude.
Ann Widdecombe was marvellous.

Adam Boulton, who looked like he was about to burst, went on a rant about Ann Widdecombe.
He referred to her as a 'spinster' & ‘old maid’.
I can’t imagine him using such terms for an elderly left-wing woman, particularly from another religion.
Sky News and Adam are despicable.
The EU has sneaked through mass electronic surveillance regulation Chat Control despite the parliament voting it down three times – by waiting till MEPs had left for the summer then imposing it, says Eugyppius. https://t.co/8oW28NIX6h
Adam Boulton talking mean-spiritedly about Ann Widdecombe in front of what looks like a picture of himself. He describes her – a possible murder victim – as a 'spinster', a 'battleaxe', 'a bruiser', an 'old maid', and mentions her virginity, before speculating irresponsibly about her death. Horrible, horrible stuff
Finally, some real sentencing.
Shafiq Rahman, 48, was sentenced today at Reading Crown Court to sixteen months in prison in relation to an incident in April 2026, in which he called an Orthodox Jewish man a “dirty motherf***ing Jew” and threatened to break his jaw.
The sentence reflects numerous offences which Mr Rahman admitted in court, including racially aggravated common assault, fear or provocation of violence by words.
This is the sort of deterrence that we need to see against antisemitic criminals. If you engage in unprovoked, aggressive abuse of someone because they are Jewish, you have a speedy trial and you go to prison.
That is the only way to start to turn the tide of the worst levels of antisemitic hate crime in our lifetimes.
Andy Burnham is facing a backlash from Jewish leaders and Labour figures over his pledge to impose further sanctions on Israel and his apology for Keir Starmer's response to the Gaza conflict. https://t.co/txXJXrfKHD
I will curb my language but that tweet is disgusting. You profess to be an advocate of human rights, and the right to be treated with dignity after death is a basic human right everyone should have, yet you rejoice in her death. Yes, her religion guided her views on equality issues, and I had many disagreements with her, but as a gay man I counted her as a friend, as did many others. She was actually a profoundly kind person. She endorsed my candidacy knowing of my sexuality. She softened her views on equal marriage and told me in 2019 she would not support reversing it.
So be ashamed of yourself today, Peter. You do some great work, but in this instance it's you that's the bigot. Bigoted against the dead, and bringing upset to those of us who counted Ann as a friend. Think on that.
In a Lords debate this afternoon, Lord Young of Acton argued that if we want to restore public confidence in judges and the judiciary, we have to stop asking those applying for Silk and judicial appointments to affirm their commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
