@elonmusk I can remember human elevator operators in big stores. They were mostly veterans of WWII. I cannot recall any accidents or that they were ever drunk. But that was in the days when veterans were helped by society.
@MerrynSW His response to Trump’s request to use British air bases to bomb Iran was telling. It was not based on morality nor on politics, but entirely on the legality of the bombing. You can take the man out of the lawyer’s wig, but you can’t take the wig out of the man.
@nickpopemod Sorry to hear this, Nick. I remember you from the UFO files releases at the UK National Archives a lifetime ago and I have followed your carer with interest since. You were once very kind to me and I remain grateful. The number of replies to your news is the best tribute.
@MerrynSW Even a casual reader of the financial press must have read the warnings about possible problems in the private credit market. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole (if I had one). Or do the people who allowed this investment know something I don't.
@MerrynSW Call me old fashioned if you like, but I think you should buy a house you will enjoy living in and which has access to the facilities you need - schools, pubs, transport, doctors, open spaces etc. Making a profit when you sell is a surely a second order issue.
@afneil Partly due to structural issues as well as incompetence. Fewer defined benefit pensions means less demand for long dated gilts. Bad news for politicians since they will have to stop kicking the can down the road by issuing debt which won’t be repaid until they are long retired.
@elonmusk What about wave power (moon and rotation of earth), geo thermal (from the creation of earth). During the historical period when earth was an ice-ball it warmed up due to volcanoes.
@MerrynSW Hey Merryn, well said. Sadly I thought this was my secret idea. Now everybody will be doing it. Hopefully the prices won’t rise. A mixture of low coupon shorts and high yielding longs. I would also buy linkers but am too stupid to figure them out.
@MerrynSW@boazweinstein With a few honourable exceptions (step forward BBGI), my personal experience is that Trusts don’t engage enough with private investors. They ignore us until the wolf is at the door. Then we are told we must vote. Need to start listening 10 years ago.
@maria_drutska You should look at the precise terms of Article 5. The common defence provision is less precise than you may believe. In the event of an attack, states have to assist by taking such action as they deem necessary, including armed force to restore the security of the area.
