JUST IN: The Supreme Court said Alabama can use a congressional map previously deemed to have intentionally discriminated against Black voters. https://t.co/ON9Iu6sbv2
@AliRak8710 Not getting duped by that logic. Dems already voted for national independent redistricting and not a single GOP MOC voted for it. And today there's a GOP bill to ban middecade redistricting that Speaker Johnson wont bring for a vote. Why dont you practice those principles first.
Maryland is now moving forward with redistricting changes! Glad to see it. And when we take back Congress, we must ban middecade redistricting & gerrymandering.
Maryland Sen. President Bill Ferguson is considering a constitutional amendment that could pave the way for a further Democrat-leaning congressional map.
But the odds of that map being enacted before the November 2026 election remain unlikely.

@AliRak8710 I think it'll depend on how a Congressional bill is passed. Do they implement immediately or on the next census would be a key question. Members may more easily accept the latter, in which case, we'd start with a clean slate nationally and let the chips fall.
@guayliu Middecade redistricting and gerrymandering has to be banned federally for ALL states, at the same time. The GOP could pass this today, but won't.
Breaking: Gov. Kemp has called state lawmakers for a special session on June 17 to reshape both how Georgians vote and to redraw the stateโs political maps after last monthโs U.S. Supreme Court decision for the 2028 election. #gapol https://t.co/TC7qoJndbw
๐จ MAJOR VICTORY AT THE U.S. SUPREME COURT ๐จ
For too long, unelected federal judges have had more say over Alabama's elections than Alabama's voters. That ended today.
My job: put the Legislature in position to draw a map that favors Republicans 7-0. Done. โ ๐๏ธ ๐บ๐ธ
Supreme Court today: We'll allow Alabama Republicans to change the congressional map in the primary election even though absentee voting has literally already started
Supreme Court last December: November's too late to strike down the GOP's map in TX's March primary election!!
Note that unlike LA, AL was subject to an *intentional discrimination claim*, which the Court in Callais purported to say was still actionable under Section 2. There is now officially nothing left of Section 2 if what AL did (and how it did it) is permissible.
From a couple of hours ago. This is where redistricting ends up. Republicans, after looking like they would lose or draw the redistricting war, have won it. Because Republicans can do whatever the hell they want in red states, and Democrats have to tie their shoes in handcuffs in blue states.
There's little concern about the courts in Maryland if we amend the state constitution. We have a few weeks left to add questions like this to the November ballot in #MDpolitics
Virginia's Democrat-friendly congressional map just got struck down in court.
Does that mean for Maryland:
A) more urgency to redistrict here to gain 1 Dem seat?
B) reinforce concerns that a gerrymandered map here also could get struck down?
Tell me what you think.
