There's a concept in America called "Blockbusting".

This is where a property in a White neighborhood is bought and used to house Black people.

This results in people who may have spent their entire lives working to buy their home selling it for a fraction of the price.

This house would often be bought by the blockbuster, who then fills it with more Anti-socials, conditions worsen, and the loop continues.

This is what the British government is doing with illegal migrants.

They're flooding our communities, reducing housing value as people move away, and then buying them to house more migrants.

There is a legitimate Brexit argument here, but it needs separating from the mythology.

Brexit did NOT create Europe's migration crisis. Germany, France, Italy, Greece and others were dealing with enormous irregular migration and asylum pressures years before the UK left the EU.

And the Dublin Regulation was never the magic “send them straight back to France” mechanism it is sometimes portrayed as.

Between 2015 and 2018, the UK made 18,953 requests to transfer asylum seekers to other Dublin countries.

How many were actually transferred out?

1,395.

Meanwhile, 2,365 people were transferred INTO the UK under the same system.

In 2019 the UK requested another 3,258 outward transfers. Just 263 actually took place, while 714 people were transferred into Britain.

And only 53 were transferred from Britain to France.

So yes, Brexit matters: when the UK left the Dublin system at the end of 2020, it lost one legal mechanism for transferring certain asylum seekers to participating European states.

But that's very different from saying “Brexit caused the Channel crisis”.

The European migration crisis existed before Brexit. Small-boat crossings had already begun rising while Britain was still operating under Dublin. And the actual number of people Britain successfully transferred out under Dublin was tiny compared with the political mythology that has subsequently grown around it.

The serious question isn't “Would Dublin have solved this?”

The numbers tell us it wasn't solving it before Brexit.

The serious question is what return arrangements Britain needs now.
