History is being honored by the Clerk's Office as we review and preserve tens of thousands of records, some of them dating back centuries.
Countless African American families will be able to reconnect with their roots and reclaim pieces of their history thanks to this project.
Proud to partner with Jefferson County Clerk @DavidYatesKY37 and the Filson Historical Society to preserve and catalogue a new extensive trove of historic records.
These documents tell the unfiltered story of our past, and may provide additional historic context about slavery in Louisville and Kentucky, including identities of enslaved individuals that would otherwise be lost to history. It's an opportunity to bring answers and information to those who’ve waited far too long.
Lots to look back on this week at the Clerk's Office! Our team hit the ground running at the start of February, and we intend to keep going until we see the finish line.
