The 2026 DAV Mid-Winter Conference kicked off yesterday in Arlington, Virginia. Over the next three days, DAV members and leaders will meet with lawmakers to discuss DAV’s legislative priorities and ways we can work together to help improve the lives of all veterans.
From advocating for concurrent pay and toxic-exposed veterans, to mental health support and modernizing benefits for veterans and their families, our legislative team has big goals for the year.
Take a closer look at DAV’s Critical Policy Goals that we will be discussing throughout #DAVMidwinter26 and share them ➡️ https://t.co/gZe1Fx4eXg.
Politicians love to parade veterans around during their campaigns. They treat us as props in television ads, backdrops for speeches and convenient proof points for patriotism. They shake our hands, thank us for our service and swear they “have our backs.” Then they get elected.

Nation Commander Dan Contreras at the 2025 Mid-Winter Conference:
“With over a century of service, we have secured many legislative victories for veterans + their families. We should take pride in what we have achieved but also remain vigilant + continue to advance our cause.”
