£497 for GMC, ISCP and indemnity out of pocket just to continue doing my job as a resident doctor come every August…
All to pay for a clueless regulator and a basic portfolio website anyone with a sniff of coding experience could put together 👍🏾🙃
Got a core surgical training offer this week and exchanged contracts on a home purchase today.
The surgery adventure continues. Long live the dream of becoming a professional human carpenter 😅
The UK should have a match day kind of thing for doctors getting into specialty training like the US. Hospitals actually seem proud and excited to be getting talented individuals providing patient care
Not only you have to be a medic, now you have to be a business person, athlete, volunteer, musician, actor, and run a business?!

I feel bad for the applicants 😩
Clearly someone who’s never had to do FY1 weekend or nights in a DGH covering 200-300 patients.. whilst getting bleeped for new stroke, GI bleeds, resp failure, post-op complications every 5 minutes.
Gotta love the “different perspectives”the rest of the MDT bring to the table
@simondoyle87@MHA_92_ Everyone has their own perception. I do not think a ‘starting’ salary that high is justified. I feel it flies in the face of the other HCPs. Having worked with FY1s, many r close to useless & r carried by HCP team around them. But they learn quickly, hence rapid pay progression
“Supernumerary” says the consultant who has no idea that the F1 on call would be the first point of contact for their deteriorating post-op patient or ensure their emergency admissions are ready for theatre.
Unfortunately, these are the out of touch seniors we have to deal with

If the pharmacists and PAs can do this.. why do I as the junior doctor carrying the on call bleep, crash bleep and seeing new admissions responsible for the discharge letters then?
“But the care home wouldn’t accept them if the letter is not done in next 15mins” 🙄😡
Really productive day @barnshospital for our 'Pharmacy Discharge Team' (formed to help facilitate patient flow during the #JuniorDoctorsStrike). 17 TTO's written by our Pharmacist Prescribers... 29 in total over the last 3 days. Equivalent to a full ward worth of beds! 👏
Less than a year into being a doctor and I’ve come to realise very quickly you’re just a line on a spread sheet working for this NHS monopsony. Do the best you can whilst at work for the patient in front of you. Prioritise time with loved ones and for things that bring you joy
Reposted upon reflection and have blurred out semi identifiable info. We can do better than this.
