Teenage Girl Sexually Assaulted In Sea Off Brighton Beach, Police Release Images Of Two Men.

Police have launched a manhunt for two men after a teenage girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in the sea off Brighton beach.

Sussex Police have released images of the two men they want to identify after the girl was sexually touched over clothing while in the water on 23 June.

According to officers, the pair approached the girl and her friend on the beach, sat with them for a short time, then followed them into the sea. The alleged sexual touching took place while the teenager was fully clothed in the water.

A force spokesman said: "Police are investigating a report that a teenage girl was sexually touched over clothing on Brighton beach, in an area near to the bottom of West Street. The incident was reported to have happened in the late afternoon or early evening on 23 June. The men were alleged to have approached the victim and her friend a short time earlier and sat with them on the beach before the offence took place in the water. Officers would now like to speak with the two men in the images in connection with further enquiries."

The release of the images has also prompted renewed discussion about safety and demographic change in Brighton, a city that has housed between 50 and 170 asylum seekers in hotels and HMOs, with hundreds more across the wider Sussex area.

Brighton beach remains one of the busiest stretches of coastline in the country throughout the summer, attracting huge crowds of holidaymakers and locals. The fact that the alleged assault is said to have happened in broad daylight has heightened concerns about safety on the city's seafront.

The police appeal comes after several recent sexual-offence investigations in and around Brighton, including two cases where suspects were arrested and charged charged within days.

In late July, a woman in her 30s reported being raped in a flat on High Street. Hany Mohamed, 37, a British national and registered sex offender previously jailed for nine years, was arrested, charged with rape and common assault, and named by police.

Days later, on 2 August, a woman reported a sexual attack near Black Rock car park on Madeira Drive. Akiyas Jameldeen, 51, described by police as a British national from Crawley, was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of oral rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration. He too was named promptly.

Then, in the early hours of 5 August, a woman in her 20s reported being raped on Brighton beach near the i360 tower. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Unlike the previous two cases, Sussex Police have so far refused to release his name or nationality.

The series of incidents has prompted questions from residents and visitors about safety on Brighton's streets and seafront, and whether enough is being done to protect women and girls.

UPDATE: Afghan resettlement hotel in Bracknell and Bracknell Forest Council’s standards investigation into me for daring to tell residents the truth about the accommodation and support being provided to Afghans.

I want to clear up some confusion and reassure people, especially those who donated to my crowdfunder, that with the help of the @SpeechUnion, I now have alternative legal representation in place for next month’s Code of Conduct hearing.

I was forced to seek alternative counsel after providing Bracknell Forest Council with six months of availability, including dates the Council itself originally proposed and then withdrew, only for BFC to select a date they knew my barrister could not attend.

I also want to thank everyone who has donated towards my legal representation. It is genuinely needed and hugely appreciated.

This week I learned that, despite Bracknell Forest Council having its own in-house solicitors, it has now also instructed a heavyweight solicitor. He’s a partner in the firm and he previously oversaw the standards investigation into Boris Johnson when he was Mayor of London.

I’ll leave others to decide whether instructing lawyers like this is a proportionate use of taxpayers’ money for a Code of Conduct hearing involving a volunteer town councillor.
