In the final episode of the “Witness to the Age” series, Ahmed Mansour interviews freed Hamas prisoner Abdel Nasser Issa—the dean of Hamas prisoners in the Zionist occupation prisons and one of the founders of the Al-Qassam Brigades—who underscores Yahya Sinwar’s deception of the occupation, remarking that the occupation “thought they had managed to tame Yahya Sinwar, that they had managed to make his concerns revolve solely around how many workers were entering ‘Israel’ from the Gaza Strip and how many boxes of tomatoes were entering Gaza […] but he was also, as they say, operating ‘under the radar,’ planning and working to strike this criminal occupation that continues to occupy our land, Palestine.”
Issa also highlights the main objective of Tufan al-Aqsa, quoting Muhammed al-Deif’s remarks that: “the liberation of Palestine was the ultimate objective but the main target the prisoners. We were waging this battle to capture soldiers to exchange them with our prisoners. The prisoners were present in everything the resistance did.”

I have translated the full text of al-Qassam Brigades commander Dr. Majed Abdullah's commemorative reflection on Saeed Izadi, “Hajj Ramadan,” circulated in Arabic and Persian on the one-year anniversary of the latter's passing. The article focuses on the foundational (1992-93) period in Marj al-Zuhur during which Hajj Ramadan first fraternized with various Hamas leaders, auguring what would be a decades-long collaborative relationship. It also details Hajj Ramadan’s development of the Qassam Brigade's “Command and Staff Course,” which continued to be taught in its military academy. Based on his commemorative testimony, Dr. Abdullah knew Hajj Ramadan intimately from 2005 until 2022, when the two last saw one another.

"Hajj Ramadan devoted his time to serving the mujahideen across a variety of arenas and was a genuine partner in bolstering all of the Palestinian resistance currents. His contribution is evident in the development of the resistance’s manufacturing and technological capabilities, particularly in the fields of missiles and guidance systems, as well as various types of drones. He planned and supervised hundreds of military training courses designed to prepare and train fighters from different Palestinian factions.

Furthermore, he was the driving force behind an important project for the Palestinian resistance in southern Lebanon. The project aimed to bring together fighters of different nationalities in service of the cause of Palestine’s liberation and envisioned a Palestinian force numbering several thousand fighters. The Radwan Force emerged from his insistence on building a large, genuinely combat-ready resistance force, fully prepared to carry out operations suited to whatever the circumstances required.

He also played a role in shaping the military thinking of resistance fighters, both inside and outside Palestine. One of his most important initiatives in this regard was the establishment of the 'Command and Staff Course' for Hamas’s military and security commanders. The program lasted nearly two years, and throughout that period the participants traveled regularly between Damascus and Tehran. This course remains one of his enduring achievements. One ought not to forget that the intellectual output of this program was later utilized by the resistance in Palestine, as it was incorporated into the training curriculum of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades’ military academy.

He was also a genuine partner in providing logistical support through the delivery of various types of weapons to the resistance. He was the true heir to the approach of Imad Mughniyeh (Hajj Radwan), may God have mercy on him, whom we knew for his boundless devotion to al-Quds and Palestine. His unflagging concern was with how to deliver large quantities of diverse weaponry to the resistance forces in Gaza. To that end, Hajj Ramadan devoted substantial financial resources to opening routes into Gaza and constructing storage facilities in various locations to ensure that weapons reached the resistance forces. As a result, a significant portion of the resistance’s arsenal was built through his financing, planning, and supervision. In this way, he played a genuinely critical role in the mujahideen’s battles against the Zionist enemy.

Hajj Ramadan did not circumscribe himself to supplying us with weapons, providing us with training, and overseeing various infrastructure development projects. He was also always eager to be directly involved in monitoring the confrontations between the resistance forces and the Zionist enemy. He served as a trusted adviser and financial backer, working to marshal every available resource in support of the resistance during battle. Whether in Beirut or Damascus, he was affixed to the joint operations rooms and coordination centers, closely monitoring developments to ensure that nothing was left unattended.

One of the most notable examples of this involvement was his partnership with the martyred Hajj Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force (may God have mercy on them both). In December 2008, the two men worked together daily in the 'Crisis Room' established outside Palestine to monitor the Furqan War. Hajj Qassem’s advice and assessments, informed by his military expertise and keen strategic insight, were continuously conveyed to the resistance as events unfolded. The two men remained in that joint operations room throughout the twenty-three-day war.
