Started my agronomy career in Southern Alberta dryland.
Common practice was to spray gly at 3-5 USG and stretch rates. Guys swore by it. Covered big acres, everything got killed and it saved a couple trips with the water truck. But, some of us were pushing back, telling them they needed more water.
Then in 2011, gly-resistant kochia was found. I could take you out to the exact field. It’s been a beast since.
The 10 USG is there for a reason. For the average operation, it has been found to work best.
When everything else is dialled in and conditions are ideal, low volumes can work, but part of the reason that pesticide resistance is an issue is that those critical pieces of information get lost in the “what works for me” telephone game.
I’m not an equipment expert, but when I get called cause the chem isn’t working, sometimes it’s due to poor nozzle/volume/speed combos on the machine.
A couple customers have these machines, and they are super impressive, but as an agronomist, this low water volume talk, without the necessary provisions, makes me anxious.
If the claim is that this specific machine can do a great job at high wind and low water, make that claim with your whole chest, but be specific.
We’ve been down the path of “my neighbor can get away with only spraying 5 gallons so I can too” and it’s gotten us Group 2,4,9,14 resistant weeds.
I've been telling folks that the biggest N.A. urea concern is that NOLA remains a steep discount to world replacement. With India in the middle of their purchase tender, this is even more true.
NOLA is $130+ discount to M.E. replacement...currently my single biggest worry.
Schools spend hours trying to “reach” the kid who openly doesn’t care, while the kid who tries every day quietly gets ignored. We’re exhausting ourselves chasing resistance instead of investing in effort.
N.A. farmers are in good shape for spring fertilizer.
Potash - everything should be in place
Phosphate - everything should be in place
NH3 - most demand is met by domestic production
UAN - most demand is met by domestic production
Urea - of the 5 - 5.5M import needed, 3.5M already lined up thru March
Your choice, Albertans: You can believe Premier Danielle Smith or the Data "In 1992, Alberta had approximately 11,700 hospital beds. Today, with nearly double the population and a much older demographic, we have roughly 8,800. This is not an Ottawa or immigration problem."
When the American empire finally collapses, historians won't be stunned by the greed of the elite; they'll be stunned by the loyalty of the poor. The working class didn't just vote against their own interests. They worshipped the billionaires robbing them. They slashed their own benefits, gutted their own healthcare, and cheered while the rich wrote off private jets as tax deductions. Not because it helped them. But because they were told it would hurt someone else. And that, right there, is how you rig a democracy without even breaking a single law.
This was a comment I saw under my content. I must say… Perfectly articulated.
No arbitration. No avenue for appeal. Nothing. Shut up and do as you’re told.
I get the desire to end this and the frustrating state of affairs. But this almost demands further confrontation. Buckle up.
The UCP is forcing public servants back to the office full time.
Why should someone be paid by tax dollars but not have to be present in the office of their employment?
For no reason at all here is the full calendar of how many days this year the gov't went to the office.
At tonight’s “consultation”…
When a high school kid tried to raise concerns about the teachers strike, Bruce McAllister cut the kids mic and then suggested his parents should have beaten him more.
Listen to the clip yourself…
It’s…
Telling.

If you plan on applying NH3 this fall, may want to have that supply conversation sooner than later.
NH3 is looking solid. Easily the cheapest nitrogen form available to the struggling farmers. We are expecting a big fall run (mother nature allowing).
