I popped in to see our elderly neighbour during the break in raids to see how she was. I told her that was nothing to be scared of if she followed directions and sought shelter during a raid. She said to me “I am scared of the dark David but I’m not scared of Herr Hitler!” #1940
I heard on the wireless that in one southern suburb of London, a German aircraft bombed the high street and as civilians were running to find shelter they were machine gunned. #1940
These Germans are ruthless when they get through our defences. I've been told that not only are they dropping bombs they are also machine gunning civilians on the ground at every opportunity. #1940
After a peaceful Saturday we had to deal with two large raids by the Germans yesterday. Nearby RAF Rochford was a target and it took several hits but thankfully, from what I understand, there were no casualties. #1940
After the somewhat frenetic bombing by the Germans on Thursday and Friday I’m pleased to say that it was all quiet yesterday. I sense the Germans are regrouping after losing a large number of planes during the week. #1940
#Arsenal is raising a glass to its new partnership with Scottish whiskey brand, Chivas Regal. The collaboration, announced ahead of the 24/25 season, designates Chivas as the Gunners’ official whiskey partner and will see the opening of a dedicated #Chivas bar within the stadium.
We've got plenty of supplies of tinned food, tea, coffee and fruit in our bomb shelter now. Thank goodness for the plum trees in the garden. Mrs Jack has also made some fruit cake which won't go to waste! #1940
It is no longer a case of if the Germans will attack again, its when. I'm glad I was able to finish the extensions to our bomb shelter last weekend as we are spending more and more time in it. #1940
I paid a visit to the City yesterday as I have been approached by bank to do some work for them. I left London at 2pm & didn't make it home until 9pm because of chaos caused by the German attacks. #1940
The Battle for Britain in the air is well and truly underway. There was a constant stream of German bombers heading into the Thames Estuary yesterday, more so than I'd seen since the war begun. #1940
