@Nasdorachi@9GLO6 Every instance of a wow server being shut down are ones that are aggressively monetized via "donations", All the software to run wow servers is fully open source, and have never once been hit with DMCA takedowns.
@Nasdorachi@9GLO6 Well... you are probably wrong about that first point. I'm interested in it, and have done this on a lot of other even smaller games lol. There is no minimum time to the exemption, as you can still do this while games are still live. See World of Warcraft for an example.
@Nasdorachi@9GLO6 I mean, building one from scratch is not as unlikely as you think. The network stack. Also what it would take to run a server to even host 1000 players at reasonable ping might cost 5 or 10$ a month.
@Nasdorachi@9GLO6 I do agree with you wholeheartedly on this though. They are building games in a way that they can just pull the plug whenever they like and its bullshit for people who want to keep playing games, Especially ones they put money in on.
@Nasdorachi@9GLO6 As long as I don't provide a download to copyrighted assets, and don't attempt to monetize it. There is a specific DMCA exemption for EXACTLY this kind of thing.
