WASHINGTON, D.C. [June 30, 2026] — This weekend, DCHA discovered a cybersecurity incident
impacting its network environment. We immediately shut down the environment as a
precaution and are currently working with a team of cyber security experts and law
enforcement to fully understand the extent and implications of this incident and to restore
operations within a safe, and remediated, network environment. We regret the operational
disruption that this event may have or will continue to cause, until a safe restoration of services
has been completed.
While these types of situations have become all-too-common nationwide, we recognize the
significance of this event and have quickly taken the appropriate steps to address it. Our
comprehensive assessment is ongoing and may span several weeks. Our experts are being
thorough, and we are committed to sharing more information as soon as it becomes available.
Our residents, participants and landlords are always our paramount concern, and nothing is
more important to us now than allowing our systems to operate seamlessly again so we can
serve our families. Please know we are sparing no effort and working around the clock to
address this issue. DCHA remains fully committed to the protection of information in its care,
systems security, and data privacy.
While the DCHA's website and email systems are not available, DCHA is otherwise open for
business. Payments to landlords are expected to be issued on time this month. Public housing
residents who need maintenance services or other help can stop by their rental office to speak
with a manager. Voucher participants can come by any customer service location to drop off
documents or request assistance. Customer services sites are located at 702 H St St NW, 625 D
St SW, 2000 Alabama Ave SE. Voucher lease ups and inspections for July 1 are proceeding. In an
effort to allow staff to focus on the most urgent or time sensitive activities and transactions first,
we ask the public to please limit calls and visits this week to any matters that require immediate
attention.
