🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨 We are delighted to announce the landmark publication of the 'World Guidelines for Falls Prevention and Management for Older Adults: A Global Initiative' via @Age_and_Ageing https://t.co/GfGt26tbGn #WorldFallsGuidelines#eugms2022
'Rather than jumping in with suggestions about how to become more active, time spent getting people to talk about things like what’s important to them, how they might best get started,or who they might like to do an activity with can make them more likely to change their behaviour'
Alex Wherry (Physio) & Mel Haynes (Physio TI) at the Walton Unit promoting their work on the importance of proper footwear and regular footcare for people with dementia. They have developed a leaflet aimed at carers/relatives/friends of those with dementia. @DCHS_QA@DCHStrust

A loss of strength, confidence and a decreased ability to balance arise from not moving enough.
We can't simply wait for patients to become 'safer' or 'lower risk'...... They need to move asap, even in #hospital.
"Older people experienced a considerable reduction in strength & balance activity between March-May 2020... the greatest change in the 70-74 age group with a 45-49% decrease observed in activity” PHE

Restoring falls rehab programmes is challenging in these times but we can achieve effective uptake & adherence with new blended delivery approaches using face to face, telephone, virtual and educational leaflets.
Giving out leaflets is not enough to encourage older people to exercise. Setting person-centred goals, building relationships across pathways and addressing socioeconomic barriers also necessary #BGSconf
First time attending a virtual conference. Easy to navigate to poster presentations and finding networking a lot easier than walking around a crowded venue @DchsFalls@DCHStrust@DCHS_QA
A very warm welcome to our virtual delegates, speakers and sponsors logging in for our 21st International Conference on #Falls and #PosturalStability today! See the programme here https://t.co/HwaeSwPo8I and follow live via #BGSconf
"Love it or loathe it, virtual consultation is likely to be around for a good while longer. To help me (and hopefully you) I have collated some advice from experts in their field into this 2 part blog" Chair of BGS Falls & Bone Health SIG @jamesfrith1981 https://t.co/CrIMfxcpet
Vasovagal syncope is a common presentation in unscheduled care but patients need to know their triggers & behavioural modification. Updated with @LesleyAnderton our leaflet with advice, pictures & QR code to video. Graphics @drstefanielip . Download https://t.co/g5RLfOFRPK
Looking forward to attending my first virtual conference next week to hear updates like this ⬇️ to improve falls prevention at DCHS and in Derbyshire. #BGS#falls
Care home residents are 3 times more likely to fall than people living in the community. Residents continue to fall, and in the current climate it is difficult to support #carehome staff to prevent, modify and manage #falls https://t.co/zAYZmsIMgy
Major trauma was once perceived as a realm of vehicle accidents or violence affecting young or middle-aged people. The majority of patients attending hospitals with severe injuries are >60 years of age and have fallen from a standing height https://t.co/4iF2jroEIi
Falls Forum Restoration Special. Great discussions between clinicians sharing knowledge on how to minimise virtual barriers, optimising skills of B3s and B4s & new ways to deliver safe & effective falls rehab. #justthebeginning@DCHStrust@DCHS_QA@MaryHeritage
Great creativity from Tracey Fryer (and her daughter, Charlotte) whilst working from home, they designed this poster together to promote Falls Prevention in the Ashbourne team. Brilliant poster for QA Falls Prevention Champions to share and use. @DCHStrust@DCHS_QA.
