This weekend, MOCA Director Carey joined community members at St. Mary’s Ethiopian Orthodox Church to honor Fasika (Ethiopian Easter) — one of the most sacred and deeply spiritual celebrations in Ethiopian tradition.
Over the weekend, MOCA hosted a free tax filing event for income‑eligible residents. We connected more than 40 DC residents with qualified volunteers who assisted with filing or answered their tax questions. Thank you to our partners @nigeriancenter and @CommTaxAidDC!

This Second Chance Month and all year long, we're proud to support DC's returning citizens who shape our city and our government for the better.
Ward 2 CERT Training is in full swing, as 20 residents joined at Anthony Bowen YMCA to build skills, strengthen connections, and prepare to support their communities in case of an emergency. Participants started with team building activity by building towers from scratch.
During and after the storm, DDOT will coordinate with navigation and wayfinding apps to communicate road closures and hazards. If you encounter flooded roads or unsafe conditions, avoid the area and follow posted detours or alternate routes.
🚨 The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch in the District of Columbia until 7PM today, 3/16.
A Tornado Watch means that tornadoes are possible in the area.
Very strong and dangerous winds may cause downed trees/branches, localized power outages, and damage to homes and buildings.
BEFORE A TORNADO:
- Secure loose outdoor objects like trash cans, outdoor furniture, and other items that could become dangerous flying debris during a tornado.
- Charge your phone and other communication, medical, or assistive devices in case of a power outage.
- Identify a safe space to shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued.
