Some of you Padres fans fail to realize that AJ Preller (& scouts) loaded our quiver and secured the top international prospects in back-to-back years (Salas ‘23, De Vries '24). They also lament the Soto trade. Preller was honoring Peter’s wish to go all-in while he was here. He didn't want to part with James Wood, a second-round pick (62nd overall) in ‘21, who was the final piece to get it done. A scout from a rival club told me that next season, they missed out on him and he should have gone in the first (but didn't due to swing concerns). Credit Preller for having the eye to acquire these guys and having the moxy to make these trades in our window. I love Leo, but this move frees us up to move Cease (who we will not re-sign) and Suarez (who has an opt-out) to secure a LF. The Preller hate is ridiculous and franky uniformed, IMHO.

@BigBlueReds @jayhaykid it’s to make the point that he’s not close at all to contributing to a Padres team meant to win now. He could very well be good in 2030 but he’s a single A prospect who is years of development from becoming someone who i would care we trade
