Four Stoic virtues. Four members of the fireteam.
Most people are naturally strong in one or two and have quietly outsourced the others.
Courage without temperance burns the village. Wisdom without courage never leaves the room. Justice without wisdom fights the right fight the wrong way.
Which one keeps going AWOL on you?

"The undisciplined man is not free — he is at the mercy of every craving that walks up to the wire."
~ Stoic Reveille, Ch. 8
Discipline isn't willpower. It's clarity. You don't fight your way to temperance. You think your way there.
What have you been letting through the gate?

The Circles Drill — Epictetus's framework, still the best clarity tool I know:
Inner circle: what you fully control. Smaller than you think.
Middle circle: what you influence but don't control.
Outer circle: everything else.
Where does most of your daily mental energy go?
For most people: middle and outer.
That's the problem.

Marcus Aurelius: "You have power over your mind — not outside events."
Most people treat their emotional state as a report on the world. The Stoics said it's a report on your judgments about the world. Judgments — unlike events — are yours to revise.
That's the whole game.

The Evening Debrief. Five minutes. Every night.
1/ What did I do well today?
2/ Where did I fall short?
3/ What's the one order for tomorrow?
No app. No tracker. Just a notebook and the honest read.
A day without a debrief is a day you didn't cash in the lesson.
Run it tonight.

The Stoics didn't write because they had it figured out.
Marcus Aurelius — emperor of Rome — wrote private notes to himself about how to stop reacting like a man who'd read no philosophy at all.
You're not behind. You're in the fight. That's where the doctrine is supposed to find you.

Your internal fireteam:
Wisdom — sorts signal from noise
Courage — moves while afraid
Justice — the duty you carry for others
Temperance — guards your ammo

Hope is not a plan.
You learned that in uniform, and it's just as true in a suit, in jeans, or in sweatpants. Stoicism is where the plan comes from."

Most people wake up and immediately hand the day over — to the phone, to the inbox, to whoever needs something first.
By the time they've caught their breath, it's noon. By noon, it's over.
This Field Manual is a seven-day drill for taking the day back. Built on Stoic philosophy — the same framework Marcus Aurelius ran while commanding legions,
Epictetus built while enslaved, and Seneca kept sharp while navigating an emperor trying to kill him.
One page. Every morning. Seven days.
Free. No strings. Just the drill.

The Morning Brief — three questions, every day, before your feet hit the floor:
1/ What's actually in front of me today?
2/ What is mine to control?
3/ Who am I going to be when it gets hard?
Twenty minutes of this beats two hours of scrolling. Every time. 🧵👇
Civilian life doesn't have a bugle.
No one stands you up. No mission gets dropped on your desk. No one decides who you're going to be today — except you.
Stoic Reveille is your call.

When the WiFi goes down minutes before a major deadline, the impediment to action (the outage) advances action.
You are forced to pivot: find a hotspot, work offline to refine the logic of your argument, or go to a coffee shop. By facing the obstacle head-on instead of panicking, the interruption becomes the path to completing your task with more resilience.
The disruption didn’t stop the work; it changed how the work got done.

Do not act as if you will live thousand years. Death hangs over you. While you live, while it is in your power, be good. ~ Marcus Aurelius
The bugle sounds - Reveille isn't just a wake-up call; it's your command to rise with purpose, owning your day before the world claims it.

If your team goes quiet around you, that’s data. You didn’t ‘create calm’—you trained people that feedback earns defensiveness from you, not change.

“No man is free who is not master of himself.”
~ Epictetus
You don’t control the market, your boss, or the algorithm - but you do control whether you sit down, think clearly, and make your next move with intention instead of emotion.
In a noisy world, Stoicism is your quiet advantage: treat every decision like a move on the chessboard, slow down, observe, then act from principle, not impulse.
Today, choose one situation you’re worried about and ask: “What part of this is truly mine to control?” Then make just one calm move in that direction.

Shitty Leader: Uses authority as a shield—blame-shifts, rewrites history, and treats every piece of feedback as an attack.
Stoic Leader: Uses authority as a responsibility—owns outcomes, invites challenge, and asks, ‘What’s in my control to fix here?’ Ego vs role. It’s that simple and that brutal.”

Nobody deserves gratitude more than the women who steady us in chaos. The women in my life reflect the stoic virtues in many ways:
Wisdom: They see clearly when I’m lost in my own story, and they tell me the truth... even if I am not ready for it.
Courage: They walk into hard seasons, hard conversations, and hard choices without flinching.
Justice: They fight for what’s fair, protect the people they love, and hold a higher standard for themselves than they demand from anyone else.
Temperance: They carry storms inside them and still choose patience, steadiness, and grace even when the world doesn’t deserve it.
I am a far better person because of you. I love you, thank you.

You can be a good person and still be a shitty leader in key ways. Both can be true.
The Stoic move is to drop the self‑defense and own reality: ‘What am I doing that harms the people I’m supposed to be leading - even if I can justify it?’ That’s not self‑hate; that’s the first act of real leadership.”
