I'm of the view that this piece from James Hansen and 17 others last week is one of the most important published on the state of the climate crisis in years. A 🧵
"I'm putting the next generation first" says Sunak - while approving the biggest undeveloped oil field in the North Sea, greenlighting the first coal mine in 30 years and rolling back a host of climate measures. Sure. #CPC23
At conference, Sunak said:
Nobody wants an election
NOBODY
This petition says otherwise
Yes, they'll ignore it
But the more signatures it gets
...the bigger the bell he looks.

@joelycett@ukhomeoffice When I was 18 I tried to get into a gay club in canal street. The bouncers asked us what lesbian magazines we read…inevitably we couldn’t answer and had to mooch off to the pub. Getting an uncomfortable sense of dejavu 😂
Forests are much more than stores of carbon
And they can't just be created by planting trees
We can't plant our way out of this, we need to atop destroying nature a d stop burning fossil fuels https://t.co/sVoW7E3nO7
Sunak keeps saying households were facing £10k-20k bills, primarily because of the cost of moving to a heat pump. Here’s the second major energy company inside a month announcing a heat pump at a cost that is comparable and even lower than a gas boiler. https://t.co/1ulYIFBxOV
@RoryStewartUK My husband often quotes you when explaining why he is a Tory voter. Unfortunately, while your moderate centre-right views are honourable and backable, the world has moved on. I’m afraid that your - and his - conservatism no longer exists. We need an alternative. Quickly.
A short film about why the dirtiest and most antisocial economic interests dominate our politics. I believe it's the key to understanding the terrible state we're in.
Jacob Rees Mogg: "I want cheaper food. I want hormone injected beef from Australia. I've eaten beef in Australia, it's delicious. There's nothing wrong with it."
This is cynical beyond belief.
The PM is pretending to halt frightening proposals that simply do not exist.
He is doing it to turn the environment into a US-style political wedge issue - something the UK has avoided all my political life.
Sunak is chucking the environment into a political fire purely to score points.
It is reprehensible.
@HannahComer4d Also…in case it makes you feel better…when we potty trained my eldest she did a poo on the potty and the dog ate it. The worst thing I’ve ever witnessed. So maybe don’t rush 😂
Trigger warning…baby animal incoming. This might just leave you feeling all warm and happy. (Ps they are orphaned and so now safely tucked up in a box awaiting a call to @HARTWildlifeR in the morning).
Just Stop Oil are used by both Conservative and Labour politicians as a bogeyman against which to define themselves.
But JSO are right about the crisis we face, and the scale and speed of the response it demands. And the politicians are wrong.
