I’m not sure grading attendance will fix absenteeism for those who need it most. It just punishes the kids for barriers they can’t control. I understand the intent. I just don’t understand the approach. It all feels like optics over equity. I need to think more on this.
Graded attendance bothers me. In my psychotherapy practice with children I’ve seen that attendance often isn’t a choice. It’s a signal. It’s like evaluating the symptom without addressing the cause. It disproportionally penalizes the kids who already have the most barriers.

I wanted to raise a girl who is not afraid to chase dreams. The real test was to be a brave enough mom to let her make them happen. My girl and 2 friends flew to Calgary to meet up with a friend who lives there. Banff was everything she dreamed it would be. #mygirl#banff

I raised her. This brave, charismatic, smart, independent girl was raised by me. She’s out there in the world making memories that are filled with joy and love. It is possible to break generational trauma. More to come…. #PTSDAwareness#momanddaughter#love
Our thoughts are with all our friends around the world who were affected by community violence this weekend. You are not alone.
When little ones hear about violent events on the news, it can be hard to help them understand and cope with what happened. Limiting media exposure and making space for them to express big feelings can help children feel safer and more secure.
