“I wanted to tell you that I picked up my son’s insulin recently, and when the cashier told me the bill was $48, I told her she must be mistaken. She must mean $480. The cost for his insulin had been about $475 for a 3-month supply with excellent insurance.”

Today, Jill and I mourn the loss of Ady Barkan and offer our deepest condolences to Rachael, Carl, and Willow during such a difficult time.

He turned his pain into purpose and, in turn, inspired optimism in the hearts of countless people living with ALS and their loved ones

It’s like he said in a speech just one month ago, “Staying in the struggle can bring beautiful rewards.”

I know from experience what it’s like to lose a piece of your soul to a deadly disease – to watch the most honorable person you know fight until the last breath with absolute courage and character.

I hope Ady's family can find some measure of comfort in knowing that Ady’s legacy will endure through them, and all those whose lives he touched.
