The U.S. Department of Education recently awarded Florida an almost perfect score of 97.73% on the State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report for special education. This is Florida’s highest score in at least five years.

This report measures performance for students with disabilities from ages 3-21 on 18 federal indicators, including student achievement, educational environments, and dispute resolution.

Florida serves over 2.8 million students in public schools, and over 15% (448,966) are students with disabilities. And while we have a significant history of supporting students with disabilities, including services that have resulted in positive secondary transition and post-school outcomes, we will not rest on our laurels. Florida remains committed to building on our successes to strengthening educational opportunities for all students.
