Air Peace has been summoned to the NCAA HQ for an urgent meeting on Monday with regards to a number of unexplained disruptions, including complaints received today from passengers on the Heathrow-Abuja flight who were rerouted via Gatwick-Lagos-Abuja and left stranded in Lagos because of a reported air return due cracked windshield.
The above, along with cases of delayed refunds, compensations/first needs, has activated the Consumer Protection Department of the NCAA.
We will not tolerate any abandonment of paying passengers. While the Authority continues to support domestic carriers, we hold all operators to the strictest standards.
An investigation into these disruptions will be conducted and appropriate action taken as usual based on the facts of the incident as enshrined in Part 19 of the NCAA regulations 2023.
The NCAA, as sole regulatory agency for civil aviation in Nigeria, remains committed to protecting the rights of all stakeholders.
To activate the NCAA in your air travel complaint, your flight must have operated out of Nigeria, into Nigeria, or transit through Nigeria. It does not matter your country of origin as a passenger. You could be Nigerian, Spanish, American, Arabian, etc.
Even if you are Nigerian, if your flight did not originate from Nigeria, terminate in Nigeria, or transit through Nigeria, the NCAA Regulations do not apply, and so the Authority does not have jurisdiction.
This information is for everybody who reached out over the viral Ghana airport incident, and everyone else.
Civil aviation operates by regulations and international conventions.
Feedback from the airline tonight reads thus:
"Dear Sir,
- Two tickets have been refunded.
- One of the ticket is flown.
- Refunds for three tickets await authorization from the passengers, as this is a third‑party request.
- One ticket was not submitted for refund.
We have already begun processing the majority of the refunds and are working diligently to resolve this matter promptly.
Best regards."
Kindly confirm the above.
Escaped death? For an air return due technical that landed normally and safely without incident? There was no incursion or excursion. No crash landing. Majority of the passengers finally departed while the remaining few, accommodated in hotels, are being reprotected on other airlines.
