@kathmelandri thank you so much for having me on the show, all the support means the absolute world and more. You can listen back to my interview on BBC sounds later today. @Debden_Dynamos you guys get a mention as well, thank you for all you do! 💙 #livsyearofchallenges
❔What's your motivation for this ride?
- Raising money for a fantastic cause, but also spending time outdoors with great people. And the historical element adds an extra buzz.
❔Any words of wisdom
- Go far, not fast. And always have an excellent snack variety.
WE ARE LEAVING TOMORROW!
Next up is Alice - despite the forecast of torrential rain, she'll be found liberally reapplying factor 50 as she burns under a bright light bulb.
❔What you are most looking forward to?
- The views and being outside for the whole weekend.
❔What you are least looking forward to?
- I HATE riding on sand. And the forecast is making me anxious about mud.
❔Least looking forward to?
- Losing my battle with the gravel
❔What's your motivation?
- Push ourselves for an amazing cause
❔Any words of wisdom?
- Familiarise yourself with the route before you set off (where are the hills? Breaks? What units is the distance measured in?)
Our Dynamo for this glorious Monday morning is Joe. On a ride, Joe is most frequently found asking the weather to get worse.
❔What's your favourite kind of cycling?
- Conquering big climbs in the sun
❔What's your training been like?
- Slow and steady (before accidentally massively ramping up at May Half Term) [Joe struggles to differentiate between miles and km, which is a problem when you're aiming for 500 in 5 days]
❔Most looking forward to?
- Battling the gravel!
❔What's your motivation for this ride?
-To raise as much money for a fantastic cause and shed a bit of timber!
❔Any words of wisdom
- My dad always said ‘Never go back the same way you came.’
Next up on 'Meet the Dynamo' is John (on the right), one half of the formidable Red Arrows branch of the group.
❔What's your favourite kind of cycling?
-The pancake flat, smooth cycle lanes of Europe
❔What's your training been like?
- It’s quality not quantity (John could not be convinced to elaborate on quantity)
❔What you are most looking forward to?
- Riding through the English countryside with my pals
❔What you are least looking forward to?
- Hills, gravel, faff.
❔What are you least looking forward to?
- Mud
❔ What's your motivation?
- Raising as much money as possible for @ehaat_
❔Top tip:
- Never underestimate the power of a well timed Snickers bar
8 DAYS TO GO! It's time to meet this year's Dynamos!
First up is Gareth, the undisputed Dad of the Dynamos, most frequently found tearing his hair out at the disorganisation of the rest of us...
❔What's your favourite kind of cycling?
- Anything with a bike
❔ What's your training been like?
- Mostly commuting (fun fact: Gareth has clocked up over 4000km so far this year, mostly on the ride to and from school)
❔ What are you most looking forward to?
- The Ridgeway section (Britain's oldest road!!)
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! To everyone who has already sponsored us, thank you so much.
Today is our final call for names on the shirts! Link is here: https://t.co/rJy7pfX6Iq 💙
Please give us a final boost of motivation: al donations by Friday will on our shirts, metaphorically cheering us on as we bump our way round the route. The link is https://t.co/rJy7pfX6Iq & we will be forever grateful.
Big love.
The Debden Dynamos 💙
We have got 30 (THIRTY) days until we set off from Debden for the King Alfred's Way...
As usual, we are chronically unprepared (possibly even more so than usual as some of us are yet to venture off-road for any substantial period of time).
As usual, we are doing it all for a good cause, and, as usual, we are planning on taking as many of you as possible with us.
We are riding for the phenomenal Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, a cause that is so close to our school community's heart.
We are officially back, with just under 7 weeks to go!
As usual, we're currently far from prepared. This year, the distance isn't necessarily the most daunting challenge - 72 hours of off road is going to take a toll on our bones and bums!
Just like last year, we are raising money for the incredible Essex and Herts Air Ambulance - a cause very close to our school community's heart. If you are able to, any and all donations are hugely appreciated (you get your name on our shirts!).
